Caterham haven't carried out a "performance" run yet so it might be closer than it currently appears. Not to mention Caterham have done twice the mileage, its a tired old cliche but... to finish first, first you have to finish.

Looks like Marussia have done a damn fine job so far, well done to Graham Lowden and his team. Pretty impressive I think given their relative lack of resources.

+1

They look to be getting to grips with the car. I still think they could do with 2 strong drivers though, so unless Chilton picks it up this year, I can see it being Bianchi all the way.

Button said that Marussia might get a podium finish!

I'm not sure the picture is that rosy. They had quite a bit of downtime to issues and if you trust Anderson's analysis to be at least ballpark, they're still the same 3.9% off as they were in 2013.  Their own reliability issues could squander the early opportunity for points, then fall back to Q3 certainity once the Renault teams can run at 100%.

I think that at this point one should compare Marussia mostly to the other Ferrari engined cars. I mean, if you want to see if they are making progress with their chassis. Sure the car is unreliable and that might hurt them a lot this year, but based on testing they are quite close to Sauber on pace, which would be a clear step forward.

Can't see any mention of podium - just a big step forward.

But I reckon it's more a case of Sauber falling back badly than Merussia making a gain compared to the front-runners.

That's not good is it? I hope they can find another owner. What will they rename the team?

There are plenty of Russian oligarchs who want somewhere to dump their money.

Stefanovic announcing 'negotiations' in 3...2...1...

Omnicourse said about a month ago he was in talks with them, allegedly back then because Nikolay Fomenko was not amused by the new regs. and the costs. The rumours suggested Barichello had some part in it but this was never confirmed.

Of course now it's more clear what is going on, do hope they find a buyer cause I would hate to see them go.

Marussia is doing well with the upgrades, lots of laps without problems.
Yesterday max chilton's best time was 1'37''678, near to Bianchi's fastest lap achieved on saturday night with a colder and grippier track surface.

So it's official now: Marussia Motors is no more and its majority stake in the F1 team is now owned by a company named Marussia Communications Ltd. According to a spokesperson, this will have no impact on the F1 team whatsoever, as there wasn't a financial or technical link between the team and the car manufacturer anyway. Sure, it's not like Marussia bought and rebranded Virgin F1 mainly to advertise their supercar business, isn't it?

It's unlikely they will rebrand as anything unless someone pays for that right. We have a Lotus F1 team years after they dropped the nominal link with the car company.

But the Lotus name at least has history and prestige, unlike Genii.  On the other hand, Marussia already had less of either than Manor Motorsport before it went bust.

Yeah but it tends to be European football clubs (Chelsea, AS Monaco) so the husband has somewhere to sit whilst his wife is out shopping in London/Paris/Monte Carlo. Chelsea FC is just a massively expensive and elaborate 'husband chair'.

I see that Max Chilton was just over 1.9 seconds slower than Rosberg during this week's test at Bahrain and Bianchi, on the second day, just over 3 seconds behind Hamilton - These times suggest that the Marussia has made a distinct step forward this year.

I think they have made progress on the chassis side but the Ferrari Power plant is pants. Caterham chassis is probably not as good but they have a power plant advantage. It would be ironic if the change to Ferrari Power plants cost them tenth spot.

My dear wish is that Cosworth can get their PU to the grid for 2015. AFAIK Marussia's deal for Ferrari PUs is only for one year. Cosworth probably need only 2 teams to make their project viable. I'm certain for smaller resourced it's better to source an off the peg unit rather than having to adapt a chassis to a PU that's bespoke for a works team. Just my 2 cents.

bit of an old news ...

Marussia F1 team now independent from car company

some spokeswoman ...

“The news is unfortunate for those concerned and we wish its employees well for the future,” said a spokeswoman for the team. “The supercar project was ambitious but it is disappointing that it was unable to get to market.”

The Ferrari-powered team was now controlled by Marussia Communications Ltd, she added, but gave no further details.

There is no impact whatsoever on the Formula One team’s operation,” the spokeswoman said. “There is no link between the two companies financially or technically. The F1 team has been an independent operation for some time.

“The F1 team has had a positive start to the 2014 season and looks forward to continued success in the pursuit of its racing ambitions.”

soooo ... how does that work???

That may be very timely.  As a company based in Ireland,  Marussia Communications Ltd will presumably not be at risk from the sanctions being imposed on Russia by the EU and US.

Me thinks a revival is in order. Should be 9th place for Bianchi after the 5-sec penalty, Marussia score their first points.

Congratulations Jules & the team! Hopefully the five seconds doesn't grow into something larger as they really had no choice there?

Totally deserved points for the team. Bianchi drove exceptionally well today and made the pass on Kobayashi fast enough to take advantage of all the fallout.

Can see why they are so pleased, it's going to take some sort of crazy incident filled race for Caterham to beat them now and those sorts of races have become increasingly rare these days.

Hang on, it's not just Caterham behind them...Sauber are pointless as well.  And not looking like scoring one until they get a proper driver in.
