Best looking or least worst?

The paint schemes aren't helping most of the finger nose variants like the Force India and Torro Rosso and Red Bull, i'm mean jeez, if you're going to have a penis shaped thing on your nose cone don't leave it black so that it stands out against the lighter colours behind it...

Red-Bull-RB10-Praesentation-Jerez-2014-f

Just paint the damn thing yellow guys? At least try and incorporate it into your paint scheme.

It's making it look like the teams all want to draw attention to the nose tips.

It would look worse yellow. They painted it black so it isn't so conspicuous - and rightly so!

The Red Bull isn't painted black it's left as bare carbon fibre, it makes it look frost bitten and in need of amputation.

It should be painted the same blue as the rest of the car at least.

Think this poll should be renamed "least worst looking car for 2014 regs"

My votes

Non-schlong category

1) Merc - sort of looks like how an F1 car should...somehow. New livery is nice as well.

2) Lotus - it's kind of cool and aggressive looking, bonus points for being different. Shame it has to be asymmetric though.

3) Ferrari - looks like it's been squashed by an elephant

Big Daddy award

1) Mclaren - at least it's kind of graceful

2) RBR - blunt but not too offensive

3) Sauber - poor man's Mclaren

4) FI - does it really have to be that big? Digging the new livery though

5) Williams - need to see it in the flesh but don't have high expectations

5) STR - just plain floppy

Merc wins hands down. The nose just looks almost normal. Whether that is a fast package is another question.

Merc hands down. And it is coming from rather Lotus die hard fan.

Though I like E22 nose as well cause it does look like a fork.

I've always liked the Mercedes livery, and this year it's utterly obvious the Mercedes is the best looking car. The livery looks better than ever and the car shape is great as well.

It's got to be the merc, but I find most of the other cars okay, even the finger-nosed Sauber and McLaren. The Force India and Toro Rosso however just look like they're wearing a strap on - the noses aren't incorporated very elegantly at all.

Matter of opinion... For me it's between Merc (no penis) and Red Bull (smoother descending nose).

Mercedes big time. Not because I am fan of it, but it is truly one of the best looking car since years. And front wing of Mercedes if just mind blowing.

If he is just half fast as he is looking he is fastest car on the grid :D

I very rarely put my head over the parapet here, but this subject is getting SO much discussion I had to join in.  I agree the Merc W05 is far and away the best looking car this year from the front.  However, like many fans I am sadly limited to watching on a screen rather than in person.  Hence I usually see the cars in profile, and from this perspective I really like the MP4-29. OK, the nose is grim (as all but one of them are) but in profile it looks like a big cat about to leap.  Whereas the F14T (again in profile) has a distinct cringe IMO.

Am I the only one who sees a cringe in the Ferrari?

(I should add I don't follow any particular team and driver, which may be why I don't post often.   )

Welcome Lynn.  I agree with you about the McLaren, it looks great in profile however I'm not a huge fan of the cooling exits.

Merc is almost as vile as the ferrari.

At least the RB proboscis will blend out better when running.

I'm afraid "best looking car of 2014" is like trying to figure out the best looking between a sphinx cat, a Mexican hairless and a baboon's ass. The look of this year's F1 cars is symbolizing, literally when looking at the resemblance of some of the car's noses, by whom this sport is run. Not involving the technical side of F1, and making knee jerk decisions based on freak accidents, has resulted in a mockery of what not only auto racing, but auto design in general should be.

Having said that, the paint schemes that do a better job at masking these design-abortions are FI and Mercedes IMO.

How can it be debatable - there is no right or wrong answer!!!

I like the fact they are all different. Although the Mercedes doesn't have the penis nose, it looks like its broken to me and the Ferrari seems melted - I actually think the sauber is pretty elegant from the front.

For me the livery is a striking aspect and on that basis I think the FI is definitely the worst as its a mess and the McLaren & Mercedes the best. I also quite like the Lotus.

In conclusion, I'll take the quickest one, thanks.

Next up are Ferrari and Caterham, for now.

I think the Red Bull. They've hidden the adornment well without resorting to a penis or broken nose. The Merc is a close second.

Whatever turns out to be the quickest will end up the best looking but so far the Merc/ Ferrari/ McLaren and Red Bull all look good.

Most comical nose award goes to the Toro Rosso, with FI a close second.  The Caterham is just ugly, without the laughs.

Toro Rosso and Force India are just awful. They've done nothing except build practically the same chassis and front end they've run the last few seasons (the chassis is lower though I know) and then whacked on the least considered 'appendage' to fulfil the regs.

Caterham is something completely different which I actually think should be applauded. It's bold and unashamed.

Red Bull's is a little strange seeing as it's got quite a wide surface area but is clearly doing something more with the vents etc.

Ferrari's is a combination of bad livery AND the awkward high chassis thing again, but with so far no real clue as to how they can achieve what they want from the chassis height with such a wide surface area in front of them. The black underside of the car where it meets the red at the nose downslope is just bad livery design, but the company itself is going through a bad, tacky, design period IMO.

McLaren, Sauber and Williams I don't mind so much... McLaren's is clearly more functional with the complex bodywork behind the finger, which is good as it shows more thought has gone into the design as a complete concept.

Lotus we haven't seen for real yet, but I suspect it's going to be awful... it's interesting like the Caterham, and somewhat recalls the Audi R15+ from a few years ago, though the regs essentially enforcing the assymetry is going to ruin that somewhat.

The Mercedes is a real beaut. Clever in how they've arranged what the nose 'tip' is (why did no-one else think of that, I suppose that's what they've hired Willis/Costa/Lowe/Bell etc etc. for) and a really smart overall car only matched by the McLaren and Red Bull IMO.

Not sure how you turned that into something less than complementary but I'd rather describe the noses that way than use a nob gag, and it's a cute dog in your avatar.

Sorry that you felt offended, but that was not my intention.

Merc wins easily.

Haha, so true. For me the W05 looks the best, closely followed by F14 T. Not really feeling the RB for some reason.

The Merc, easily. It would look good in any year from 2009.

Then the Red Bull - the tidy paint job on the snout keeps it neat and tidy.

Ferrari 3rd, though the dramatic swoop down does make it look a bit melted.

McLaren 4th - I like it mostly, but the obvious snout is horrible.

How come the Sauber isn't getting any votes worth mentioning?! I find it's the best looking of the shlong-nosed cars, and I find it even prettier than the F14T Multipla. I also like the McLaren. But the best looking of them all, by far and away, is the Merc, no doubt about it.
