So, Chandhok has recently tweeted that a reincarnation of a legendary livery is coming to F1:

https://twitter.com/...994524332236801

Since Williams is the only team that is running pure test livery, and since the team has been heavily linked to large Martini sponsorship, and Banco do Brasil + SKY Brasil sponshorship that would come with Nasr as the 3rd driver, what do you think will be the livery? (made two quick and dirty P'shops to fire your imagination):

The FW14b throwback...

...or the Martini Racing one?

I have left out some sponsors like Randstad and Experian because I was lazy :p

I'd much prefer the Martini livery tbh. There's something romantic about it.

Williams has confirmed that they are running the test livery and that the final livery will be revealed in Australia. Dunno if McLaren stated anything similar?

Also, leaked images of McLaren replica teamwear for 2014 is mainly black/grey.

Depends if they get a title sponsor I guess. Martini are confirmed for Williams anyway with maybe Pertrobas.

Didn't know that Martini are confirmed. I was aware that there were two strong rumors:

about Martini as a title sponsor

about Felipe Nasr as the reserve driver, hence getting Banco do Brasil, SKY Brasil and possibly Petrobas

I like the test livery. Not a classic Williams race look, but looks killer under the lights at the night races. (even with the white upper half)

I can't figure out photoshop for the "create the livery" thread, but I wanted to do half Williams test blue half McLaren test orange.

So my pick of the choices is neither.

Black, grey/silver & white to be precise which were the colours of the legendary West McLaren Mercedes livery. Can't really see that happening but it would have certainly "send the fever-o-meter off the chart".

On the basis of that Martini Brabham, I can only assume Williams are looking to revive the legendary Winfield livery.

After many years with various sponsors in their classic blue and white, I can't see Williams reprising their FW14 livery for the sake of a third driver's sponsors, and I can't see a third driver's sponsors spending enough money to become the team's major sponsors without having their driver in a race seat. A Martini livery seems more plausible, but I think it'll be McLaren in their classic papaya orange, especially since they don't have a presenting sponsor and, in their final year of Mercedes power, no longer have any reason to be in silver.

You have to read the Book of Exodus quite carefully, but at one point it clearly states "Thou shalt not paint a Williams red." That line confused scholars for millenia until 1999 came along.

I like teams maintaining a historic livery with period updates. The return of the Rothmans-style livery together with the Renault tie-up was very nice. But now that they have a Mercedes engine, it seems wrong to go with the Canon/Camel livery of Honda/Renault days.

Williams again and still obsessed with retro livery? I want sth new.

btw I hope Mclaren paint MP4-29 in that manner, the fw pylons and monocoque sides in black to make it look like thin nose. That way the nose should look a lot less funny.

It already is, on the front and rear wings. And if that will be the total amount of (quoting a McLaren tweet) "more black" they're adding their livery this year I do hope that after the pre-season testing is done they at least get rid of the huge MP4-29 stickers that not only look silly but also underline the lack of major sponsor(s).

The red colour was propably introduced because of engine supplier Alfa Romeo.

Martini Returning to F1 with Williams
24 January 2014

QufIhaR.jpg

Martini, the Italian alcoholic drink label, is returning to Formula One.

That is the claim of Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, reporting that the former Ferrari sponsor will return with its well-known logo on the Williams livery this year.

Correspondent Tobias Gruner said Martini has pledged a "two digit million sum" for its F1 return, which will be warmly welcomed by Williams following the departure of Pastor Maldonado and his PDVSA millions.

Martini was last in F1 during Ferrari's Jean Todt era, but its involvement dates back much further, including when it sponsored Bernie Ecclestone's Brabham team in the 70s.

Considering how small the PDVSA logos were for an estimated 30m, Im not expecting huge Martini presence.

And given the hype over Coca Cola(ie Burn) at Lotus and then what we ended up with...

They could compensate by mixing full-sized Martini stripes with tiny barely visible Martini logos...

This whole F1 nostalgia thing is quite a powerful selling point these days. We always knew it would be round here, but I remember it being not even 10 years ago and really wishing broadcasters/media etc would demonstrate a little more interest in the sport's history.

That'd be the most smart and most efficient way to do it. Give the livery to Martini, the resulting white space sold off to other sponsors. So visually it's Martini, text-wise everyone else.

I think Martini wouldn't even be considering large sponsorship without a livery with their iconic stripes. So, either it would be the stripes with the small logos or it would be almost completely Martini, considering the fact that PDVSA was paying mainly for the racing seat.

The FW14 doesn't look right on the dick-era of cars. Better have the 'new' Martini livery. They also never had Mercedes before, so no Honda/Renault livery please.

(new as in new for WIlliams).

According to Ted's Notebook the word in the paddock is that Williams will turn up in Australia in the famous Martini colours. A launch of the Martini coloured car is expected to happen sometime prior to the first race but not before the pre-season testing has ended.

Well, while I am thrilled and delighted at the prospect of seeing the cars in a Martini-Williams livery, it is the appearance of the Williams-Maritini pit girls that is occupying my thoughts at the moment. Perhaps someone could Photoshop those and make an old man very happy...

Well, it seems some kind of livery change is inevitable for Williams, but I hope they'll manage to put a bit more blue into it than in the picture quoted above. I don't like white liveries and for me Williams has always been a blue team (I'm aware not every of their liveries in the past were blue, but blue is what I see when I think about them). It was one of the main reasons why I started to follow Williams and it will be sad for me to see them coloured in different way. It's almost like Ferrari would not going to be red.

Martini stripes are partially blue, so there is hope the team can please them without going 100% white.

Everyone got excited when Martini returned with Ferrari a couple of years ago. But it was just a small logo on the nose cone. I really hope they will go big with Williams. They always have pre season tests with their traditional dark blue, raising hopes for a new, big sponsor, but then nothing since 2008. In fact, they have been in the doldrums since BMW left.

Now with Merc power, hopefully new sponsors, they will be regularly challenging for the podium at least.

Probably they would get a huge logo on Williams with the same amount of money they spent on Ferrari.

If the talk about double digits sponsorship package are true, they would at least get a large logo on the sidepods or engine cover + rear wing.

If the rumoured double digits sum is in the region of 30 millions, I think Martini will get the livery design. I doubt that Frank would let go of his trademark blue easily, but money is hard to come by nowadays.

The Ferrari Martini example isn't that good, they were not the main sponsor and you really don't want to change the typical Ferrari scheme, getting your logo in there is good enough.

That being said, my heart hopes Wiliams goes for the red theme, but my head says it's the white theme.
