I agree, probaly 2015 with Honda as 12 Months fishing combined with watching ManU going downhill will be enough of a break.

I'd like to see him at Honda. Heck I'd like to see him back at Ferrari even more but something tell me that won't happen. oh well

You do realise that Honda are coming back as an engine supplier, not a team.

rather than joining Mclaren (very unlikely) or taking over Bernie's empire (a good TP doesn't make a good dictator :p )

the most likely  (and logical) F1 (or motorsport related) job he can have is to stand in for election for FIA presidency when Jean Todt steps down.

I don't think so, if Ross were to join the FIA it would be to replace Charlie whiting as technical delegate.

reading between the lines of his interview, I expect to see him back in F1 in some form or another in 2015

Exactly. This all sounds to me more like a "Stop asking me the same question everyday"  statement, than an actual retirement.  I think he just said that so that the media finally gives him a (fishing) break.

The guy hasn't really got anything else to prove and has had a fantastic career, so I would wish him good luck for his retirement. I can see Adrian Newey leaving in the next couple of year too for a new challenge. Its been hinted for years now and I think it'll come when many are not expecting. Anyway, I think we'll see Ross in some capacity in the paddock in future but its highly doubtful it'll be running a team. I could see him as an FIA advisor or perhaps working with CVC. I do think he'll have a couple of years enjoying a slower life though and enjoying his fishing and family. Good luck to the guy :)

Maybe the MS accident has given him more perspective to enjoy his money and lead more of a family life?

Sadly it was doing just that which put Schumacher where he is today.

I think he can do a good job inside FIA, but I can't see him in a position other than president.

I can't actually see him as president. The majority of his career has been in F1, the president role is very different to that, and unpaid to boot. He and the Tech Delegate role would fit like a glove.

I'm just happy he announced it at a fishing event. I didn't expect anything less.

Don't know for sure of course but this 'fishin' trip' press conference certainly points in that direction.  If he had been offered a position he just would have said so but at the end of the day had decided to retire, etc.  I predict he will be back soon enough, I think he cares to much for F1.

There was no "Fishing trip" press conference. The story was from a news agency reporter covering the fishing tournament. The story was then put on the news wires and F1 journalists picked it up.

Ross Brawn has ended speculation about his future by announcing his retirement from Formula One, the Daily Telegraph is reporting.

He had played down speculation linking him with McLaren, saying last week he was focused on his fishing rather than a comeback, and used a fishing event in Aberdeenshire to announce his retirement from the sport.

Ross, may I highly suggest the Copper River, Alaska for King Salmon and some Halibut from Valdez as long as you are there. I also highly recommend Black Lake Colorado for superb trout fishing.

Thanks for all the fantastic work you did in F1, you will be missed. Enjoy!

Did you look at the story in the Daily Telegraph? Was there a press conference, was there a F1 journalist there? No, it comes from a report from a news agency that the F1 journalists have picked up... Read the detail before you doubt what I say...

The FiA could do with his tech approach. Might get better rules and policing

He's the perfect guy for this.

That would be awesome, can't see him as president too btw. Maybe he and Todt will be reunited after this season.

Maybe the lures of fishing the North Cornish coast is too much, or his sick wife....

Whatever the reason may be, its a sad loss to F1

Richard Williams of the Guardian wrote a very good piece on Bernie Ecclestone yesterday and mentioned in passing reports that CVC tried and failed to secure Ross Brawn as a replacement for Ecclestone:

"Although CVC refused to comment on Friday, reports of an unsuccessful approach to Ross Brawn, who recently stood down from the job of team principal at Mercedes-Benz, could indicate the lines along which they are thinking."

that CVC tried and failed to secure Ross Brawn as a replacement for Ecclestone:

Not surprised.

Bernie's job is to act as promoter, negotiating contracts with TV stations, trackside advertisers and racing circuits, sucking up to the leaders of countries in the middle of nowhere that want to hold races, while tightening the screws on the racing teams and saying stupid controvertial things just to get the sport into the news on a slow day.

Nothing at all to do with anything that Ross has ever shown an interest in doing.
