It's that time again when we make predictions that are hopelessly off the mark and then laugh about it in hindsight.

Base your uneducated guess on what you think a car's pace will be over an average of the first 4 races

Qualifying:

1. Mercedes

2. McLaren

= Ferrari

4. Red Bull

5. Williams

= Force India

7. Sauber

= Lotus

9. Toro Rosso

10. Marussia

11. Caterham

Race:

1. Mercedes

= Ferrari

3. McLaren

4. Williams

= Force India

6. Red Bull

7. Sauber

= Lotus

9. Marussia

10. Toro Rosso

11. Caterham

1. Mercedes

2. McLaren

3. Ferrari

5. Williams

6. Force India

7. Sauber

8. Marussia

DNQ. Red Bull

DNQ. Toro Rosso

DNQ. Caterham

DNQ. Lotus

Basing the DNQ on the 107% rule.

I'm assuming the Renault engine cannot be run flat out without breaking, thus they'll simply be too slow.

And even if they were quick enough, they wouldn't want to properly participate anyway because you're only allowed 5 engine blowups for the whole year.

After the first 4 races, I'm hoping the Renault engine and all other associated problems will be fixed.

I am having a dream of Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren on equal race pace providing amazing spectacle...but I believe it will be one of these teams dominating the field by 20 seconds. Or Red Bull if they fix their problems.

Uneducated guess:
1. Mercedes
2. Ferrari
= McLaren
4. Red Bull
5. Lotus
= Williams
7. Force India
8. Torro Rosso
9. Sauber
10. Caterham
11. Marussia

I'll just do the top 5 (because I'm lazy)

1: Merc
2: Red Bull
3: Ferrari
4: McLaren
5: Lotus

(Although what I'd like is 1: McLaren, 2: Ferrari, 3: Lotus. ...10: Merc, 11: RBR)

Bookies, for all their moral turpitude, know what of they speak; or in this case, set the odds. Ladbrokes have pegged back Vettel from 10:11 on to win the WDC to 6:4 and have installed Hamilton as second favourite at 7:2. Red Bull are no longer odds-on to retain the WCC being at 7:4 while Mercedes have taken top spot at 6:4. Button has come down from 16:1 to 10:1 - Perhaps Ladbrokes remember January 2009 when they listed Button at 600:1 to win the championship...

1. McLaren

2. Mercedes

=2 Ferrari

4. Williams

5. Force India

6. Sauber

7. Marussia

I also think Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Caterham & Lotus will either fail to qualify or not be able to run at all (though I genuinely hope I'm wrong!)

The initial opening odds maybe, but if they wish to remain profitable they'll balance and modify the books entirely on what bets the public are placing.

I'm hoping for a classic McLaren vs Ferrari clash again. Probably won't happen because of the presence of Mercedes, but still. Anyway, my guesses would be:

1. Mercedes

2. McLaren

3. Ferrari

4. Red Bull

5. Williams

6. Force India

7. Lotus

8. Sauber

9. Toro Rosso

10. Marussia

11. Caterham

Sorry SteF1an, are you saying that each team will only get one car to the finishing line?

I so nearly put £50 on JB to win. I'm such a fool

1. McLaren  -  Whitmarsh has produced a very fast car,  his best effort yet.

2. Mercedes  -  Alot of detailed design already done, early advantage

=2 Ferrari  -  Windtunnel woes solved, big update for Bahrain test looking good

4. Williams  -  Massa led resurgence,  good times in Jerez

5. Force India  -  Mercedes power

6. Sauber  -  Ferrari power

7. Red Bull   -   Renault power and that is not a good thing!

3. Ferrari
4. Force India
5. Sauber
6. Williams
7. Marussia
...massive fire at end of pits, race cancelled after Horner has a strop.

...not really. I'd put RB somewhere level with Mercedes, Lotus with Ferrari, Toro Rosso behind Sauber and Caterham sadly at the back.

Impossible to say! But - because why not - after the first week of testing I'll cautiously put forward something like this:

  1. Mercedes/McLaren
  2. Ferrari
  3. Red Bull/Lotus
  4. Williams/Sauber/Force India
  5. Toro Rosso
  6. Marussia
  7. Caterham

No doubt it'll need adjusting after the next test, and again after the first real sessions get started. :p

I'll have a guess based on what I've seen so far, which is not a lot :) and chances are my randomly drawn order in the other prediction thread is just as likely to be right... (but will be interesting to see how far off my initial impressions were)

Mercedes > McLaren > Ferrari > Williams > Force India > Sauber > Marussia > Red Bull > Lotus > Toro Rosso > Caterham.

*I have the Renault teams at the back because at the moment I just don't see how the engine can possibly be at the same level as the other 2 by Australia after all the issues they have had. At the moment I think Red Bull are in the worst shape of all the teams but expect them to be able to turn that round by the first race to at least be best of the Renault teams. (I really hope I'm wrong and Renault sort out the issues as it would be a huge shame to have 8 cars out of the running before the lights even go out).

1. Mercedes = Mclaren (I think in Oz we will see Jenson have the upper hand given his form there, however from then I believe a JB v's LH, Mclaren v's Mercedes for first few races)

2. Ferrari = RBR (It's RedBull, never discount them, and never discount Vettel)

3. Williams (Heart rather than head speaking)

4. Sauber

5. Force India

6. Lotus

7. STR = Marussia = Caterham

I don't think there will be a great deal to separate McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari at the top of the tables - mainly because of the pessimistic noises emanating from the Renault factory. I'd like to see Williams up there too, but I think they've spent too long in the doldrums to 'suddenly' come back to the fore.

No point in trying to predict an order really, other than for bragging rights if you happen to guess correctly.
