Good result then as everyone here seems happy with the winner!

Seeing as I managed to stay awake all night I'd say I quite enjoyed that race :)

Good to see Jr. gain a good memory of Daytona.

It seems as if posters here prefer the clean-shaven version.   Well, he'll shave it off when it starts coming in gray.

It was damn worth it though.

There comes a time in every man's life when he just has to accept Autosport won't pay him to write for them, and so it seems I have no choice: racing blog incoming in 3.. 2.. 1.. sometime next week.

Watching the highlights :-

It seems that Dillon needs to go back out and hit the pace car, because he hit everyone else, if he keeps this up I can see him getting dumped hard at richmond/bristol.

How long before someone gets killed in one these silly mega wrecks?

I don't think it's any more likely than the standard NASCAR crash.

It doesn't matter how hard the wreck looks. In the early 2000s it was a dark few years for NASCAR, and you could watch a guy barrel roll 8 times down the back straight at Talladega and be fine, and then see a (seemingly) minor brush with the wall next week prove to be fatal. The Big One always looks fierce, but if a car going 193 hits a car going 194 and collects a few cars going 192, no one's getting hurt badly from those impacts. The trouble is when someone gets turned into the wall or spins through the grass and slides back up the track: it only takes one spotter **** up/drive brain fade a la Deborah Renshaw and the possibility of that kind of crash again is far more worrying than someone getting taken out in the Big One.

My biggest fear is the inevitable car into the stands. It seems there's a close call every year, and it can't be a close call forever.

Stupid question time, as long as he shows up to each remaining race, he's already in the Chase?

2 out of 3 Gibbs cars had their race highlight going backwards.

Though you could say it about Hamlin too...

Unless 16 drivers have more than one victory before The Chase. Which won't happen. So yes.

Thanks.

I wonder if they'll simply treat the next 20+ race meets as testing sessions.

I think there's a logic to that.

If you put all your R&D into the higher banked 1.5-ish mile ovals, you'd probably win the championship. Because there's one of each in the playoffs, including the last race. Plus several in the normal season.

So ignore your restrictor plate, road course, and short track programs.

I'd be on board with that. Superspeedways are lotteries, road courses can be sacrificed, and short tracks = staying out of trouble, regardless of who is fastest.

That's actually a really good idea.

And I'm sure Hendrick & Co. would share their info from the rest of their lineup to Junyah as well.

So now team orders come into play as Dale Jr may feel okay about surrendering a win to Jeff or Kandy!

Not what NASCAR intended but that what happens when you are stupid, you dad and your mum fancied each a bit too much for being brother and sister and try to answer a question no one asked with an answer no one wanted.

I HOPE they just cruise around using the next 20 + races as test sessions for the Chase and say so ....

Not having much high hopes for the latter though.

You have a fair point, but we can't pretend that just because Joonya doesn't need to push 100% there won't be any racing anymore.

No there probably will be more racing even from drivers locked into the chase early on by winning a race but the stupid thing is that with this rule change they have actually taken away the need for it. Once you've won a race you can just sit back and prepare for the chase and that is a pretty dumb scenario.

I was cheering for Gordon/Hamlin/Kenseth to win it...basically anyone other than Junior and JJ. NASCAR must be pleased- they've got their biggest star locked into the Chase after race 1

aside from the 6hr rain delay it was a good race

A good break for NASCAR that Jr.'s win and the finish was delayed to prime time.

The new championship process is beyond stupid that it's about watching the individual races. If genius skips a generation, then there's hope for the series maybe sometime around 2030, if it makes it that far.

Another letdown for Gibbs - they've often had the cars to beat in this race going back to Stewart's time but haven't been able to close the deal.

Not really, If you are a Hendrick, Gibbs, Roush, or Childress, you put all-your-R&D-resources in the 1.5 mile tracks, and then you go get some MORE all-your-R&D-resources and put that in the short tracks. Then you go get some more all-your-R&D-resources and put that in plate tracks. And so forth. It's just money.
