I don't understand what his issue is.
F1 is an evolving/transitional sport, which would naturally create different periods of "variable" excitement trough that process. Its only natural.. i think that the current driver line up is very good overall, and the cars for this year might deliver some interesting racing.
Of course you will have to take under account personal views on the matter.. nostalgic feelings are unavoidable.
You can see a similar situation even in sports that are "classical" in the sense of rule changing, etc. After Zidane and Ronaldo retired, i kind of lost interest in the sport of football... i keep saying to myself that when they were around the game was better overall, which is silly since the quality is probably even higher now with Messi and CR, but to me it doesn't matter since Ronaldo and Zidane is who i grew up watching.
I am guessing its the same with Senna vs. Prost or MS vs Hakkinen...
Anyway, last season was kind of boring, but I doubt 2014 will be like that at all..
