Shipped from FAV in standard Mark I confirguration GT40 P/1067 was one of at least three which acquired a Mark II tail section before being sold new. It is thought to be the only such confirgured GT40 to currently retain it's Mk II tail. Photographs of 1067 taken by Jay Cushman whilst meeting with the previous owner (Dennis Murdoch I believe) in 2003 may be viewed in this thread on the  GT40s forum .

According to Ronnie Spain's history the car was at one time owned by Salt Walther's father George, and later nearly became the property of Rod Stewart:

This would make a good topic for one of H...fanboy's "Almost Moves" threads, though of course, the last thing I want to do is encourage him...

The American media has been playing up this story as a "barn find," which is quite a stretch as the car was never lost. Ford GT people always knew where it was.

The tail end of a Countach is visible in a barn I pass on the way to work. I assume it's a kitcar on a Fiero chassis, but maybe I should stop and look closer.

Damn right.  And make them an offer for the barn... ;)

What's the story on the olive-green color on the bulkhead and the chassis members?

There was a discussion elsewhere about it being an anti-corrosive coating used in the aviation industry, but was that something that was applied to GT40s ?  Or is it just the exterior color of this particular car, applied to the chassis as well?
