Just the messenger - thought people might like to read the article.

I'm glad he's finally landed a more senior role.

Yeah I know but I doubt it's worth a thread of its own.

Well, it's good for him, but I'll miss his radio talk with Felipe. I suspect Felipe's performance will suffer a little as well, because he's clearly a confidence driver and so he needs to work with somebody who understands that.

Rob and Felipe sitting in a tree,
Looking-like-the-Williams-front-wing
First comes points, then comes wins,
Then comes Felipe-World-Champion

And it almost rhymes!

Yeah it was fun hearing Smedders explaining about exit speed in the middle of a race lol. But I reckon Massa is looking more confident so far, out of Ferrari. And I did feel Massa was a bit of a millstone round Smedley's neck as his essential and only possible RE. I'm looking forward to some interviews from Rob now as someone further up the totem pole.

If this means we will no longer hear his dulcet Smoggy tones on the radio... I am very sad.
But it's good for Rob, seems like a thoroughly decent chap.

All the best for him in this role. I hope this is a great step in his career, he seems like a very decent, dedicated and loyal guy.

Good thread
The engineers play key roles in the performance of a driver and team over the weekend. They are certainly more significant and worthy of discussion that, say, the appointment of a junior driver to a team who we may never see turn a wheel in a race before he is gone again.
It will be sad to lose Smedley from the radio, but I am happy that Massa has someone he trusts at Williams. It will, I am sure, improve his confidence and results.

I thought it was known Smedley was going to Williams even before Massa was 'let go' from Ferrari?
Maybe those were just rumours. In any case, an interesting new role for Rob. He seems like a nice enough guy, so best of luck to him!

Engineers needs more recognition.
It's a shame he won't be 'hands on' with Felipe but I'm sure he'll do a good job and maybe even try and steer the development towards Felipe's preferences
Yeah [Felipe] baby!!!
Posted 26 February 2014 - 10:26
Hope he brings felipe's white visor for him!
Posted 26 February 2014 - 10:51
Great for Rob. He's going to be an asset to Williams and I'm sure he appreciates the promotion too. You can't spend your whole career as a race engineer.

The irony.
I was just saying if we had a new thread for every new small article , this place would be filled with threads. Just sayin...

Why not? If the Williams happens to be a race winning car...

Yes he's a good bloke for a Smoggy. Still, it was the worst kept secret in F1. It seems to be all falling into place for Williams.
