Ah, lovely photos. Remembers me of my trackwalk there in 2009. I walked upto a guard, asking if I could walk around the track (about five days before FP1), and he said something like "No, you need an orange vest", to which he turned around, to grab one, which he handed over to me, saying "Now you can walk around the track", with a big smile (although my smile was even bigger).

The track usually gets locked away from the public on the Monday before the race.

So the "best" time to do a walk around the track in its most race ready state is the sunday, 7 days before raceday.

Agh to think I was living there two years ago :( *looks out office window at grey London*

Its one of the most beautiful tracks on the calendar, such a world from the soulless grey car parks we get in much of the calendar.

Don't worry - it will either be cold and windy mid teens or stinking hot high 30's... :)

Was looking forward to hearing the cars from work but I guess that may not be possible now :well:

Last remaining FIA Grade 1 track without any tarmac runoff areas (the urban carpark for locals technically doesn't count)

I don't care for the rest of the season one bit, Australian Grand Prix is the only F1 event that I have to watch every year. Too bad that they've adopted that stupid double points crap for the non champ V8 Supercar support races

I love this circuit. Much more than so called classic tracks like Suzuka or Monza.

I am hyped up as well.

Very true, a long way to go. Plus, Lewis faces a very stiff challenge again in Rosberg as his teammate. After 2013 I will never underestimate Rosberg's ability again!

Despite that, I am going to pick with my heart and agree with SR388, I think Oz could be the start of a golden year for L.H.

I've got all season to soak in pessimism and doubt. Let's just enjoy the hope of our team and the despair of our rivals.

Right , testings over , now time for an exciting build up. Any punts on who'll take the win ?  :D  I think I'll have to go for Lewis.

Well if you get up this Friday at 3am, you definitely won't be watching F1.... ;) Two weeks today until the first race.

So who's hot and who's not?

Merc to trounce everyone as expected?

Mclaren/Williams to spring a surprise?

Ferrari a bit off the pace at the first race.....yet again?

RBR/Lotus well done or medium rare?

Marussia to get the better of Caterham?

Force India/Sauber/Torro Rosso to inadventently impregnate Bernie?

I think Rosberg will take the first one, he seems more hooked up to the car than Lewis.

For once, I wouldn't mind if Vettel won this. Then we'll know whether or not anything is capable of breaking this updated forum.

It is always a nice and special feeling to sit in front of tv or laptop waiting for the cars to show up at the first race of the season... So much better being Melbourne rather than Bahrain or any other circuit. Extra interest this time, I can't wait. So much uncertainty... :D

Think even practice will be fascinating for the first race. I'm so keen I've even taken the day off work on the Friday.

Not sure I like the new FIA spec catch fencing.

But it will certainly discourage anyone from exceeding the track limits.

I see Massa just stealing it at the last second by 1 point. After cruising by another car on the last lap, last corner. Preferably Alonsos car. :D

Not sure, but do the new rules state the 5 engine rule begins in FP1? Thatll make friday at least interesting to see who keeps his engine in one piece.

I wonder which teams are creative enough to do some additional running during the free practices. I'll be routing for these teams to take the points home.

I bet some will just stick to the standard of running a little in the last 30mins!

This is required cause aussies have an unstoppable habit of tearing up any grass that is not fenced off with large chunks of steel.

I'm not joking either... If thoses posts weren't there, neither would the grass...

Yes it does. I wonder if there will be any team so convinced that they can't do the year on 5 engines that they'll just pound in the laps regardless.

Lol, mate, in this current state I wonder if they even make it out of the pitbox at all! But even a gear box failure and subsequent replacement is gonna have consequences for the grid right? Its gonna be interesting.

What they could do, is take a leaf out of the Adelaide book of GP racing. They had a pretty failsafe solution to cutting corners as well.

Interesting - the bookies still have Vettel around 1:10 for winning the race, despite the reliability problems and the car not having shown any pace so far. It seems that after 4 years it's not easy to adapt to a different pecking order. (I'd love to see him getting a 10th consecutive win, but I can't see it happening.)

Rosberg & Hamilton are the favorites (hopefully, we'll see a good fight between them).

Year after year these Albert Park pictures stay awesome. Jealous of the people who've been there, especially shortly before the race.
