Will the race in Sochi be cancelled because of Russia invading the Ukraine?

What do you think? Bernie will be under pressure to cancel but $$$ comes before all else in F1.

Well they ran in Bahrain and Kiev is certainly a long way from Sochi so the actual physical safety of the teams is probably not a concern.

More likely to be cancelled because the circuit isn't finished than because of the political situation.

it better go ahead. fed up of races getting cancelled , bahrain(2011),new jerezy and now mabey sochi. why should sport have anything to do polictics or unrest. if sochi gets cancelled then that will only be 8 live races on bbc which will be terrible(bad enough with 9)

On the basis of what is happening just now alone, why would it be?

Doing Olympics, F1 racers etc.. while the dictatorship rolls tanks to neighbours is not a valid reason to consider boycotting? Just because you would like to see the race enjoying a soda and pizza slice?

I think it would be a message they are doing it well.

Cancelling would achieve nothing - other than a missing race in the schedule. Cant imagine Putin would lose sleep over an F1 race - when his country faces losing G8 status.

Since this event is all about $$$ again it doesn't really matter what happens from FIA's point of view - we all know where their allegiance is - plus Russia probably wants all the good PR it can after this fiasco is (hopefully) over. The one and only thing that could cancel it would be World War III

Quite possibly because of an international sporting boycott like the one aimed at Yugoslavia in 1994. And it's not impossible that something like that will be chosen if things escalate a little further.

At the time, dodging the Yugoslavia boycot would result in a prison sentence in certain countries. I can't see drivers and team managers risking that for one race.

I am sorry, this is not a discussion about motor racing which this forum is about. You are free to discuss the politics in a number of existing threads in Paddock Club or on a different forum.
