You have Gutierrez but not Grosjean?  Kvyat's surprise win not even an election...

If you are limited in the number of options, then you should have reserved the last radio button choice for "other".

I say Rosberg will get the jump on Ham and win it.

He looked faster in the wet last year. In changeable conditions he might outpace Lewis.

Massa takes a surprise win. But starting in Malaysia, factory Merc's dominate.

Same reasons as Hulkenberg. Being realistic [with all due respect], adding teams that have a realistic chance, been called out by drivers, track side people as having at least a chance. BUT, as i did with Nico, i'm adding a driver if someone wants to cast a vote on him. I'll take your comment as an opinion that they are worth a vote and add them (though this is highly highly unlikely as Renault is nowhere).

Always been a Ferrari fan so rooting for Fred/Kimi... Though I have a feeling in my guts it's going to be Rosberg.

With reliability the main factor for the 1st race,I'd go for the most reliable drivers. Button,Alonso or Raikkonen.

Surely the most realiable car will be the most important factor.

I don't see any "other" votes so far.

Is it possible by any chance to edit the topics name?

I might be wrong, but I believe a moderator can modify your topic.

I don't know about "first blood", but it sounds as if people are expecting a bloodbath in Australia.

In regards to the vote, I only chose Jenson Button over Lewis Hamilton because of their respective records at the Australian Grand Prix.  I'm sure my data points have no bearing as to the outcome, but it was either choose on record or flip a coin.

Jenson Button won the Australian Grand Prix in 2009, 2010, 2012.

Lewis Hamilton won the Australian Grand Prix in 2008.

I think everyone can agree that it'll be a Mercedes, and I was tempted to vote for Lewis, but Nico managed to get quite a lot of laps down in testing. I feel like he might have a slight edge, at least in the first race.

So I say Nico.

Unless LH has learned not to bake his tyres then Nico has probably got this one in the Bag, with Kimi nursing his tyres onto the podium too. Bottas is also likely to get a podium too.

I heard the tyres will be more durable this season. Despite that, with more torque and wheelspin the tyres might still play major role. But even so, I would lean towards fuel economy being the deciding factor in 2014 formula and not tyres anymore. The more fuel you can save through driving style, the more power you can use over the race distance.

I had a dream last night that Bottas won in front of Alonso and Massa. That was awesome

To draw first blood is an English idiom meaning score a hit on your opponent first, probably originating in boxing or fencing or something. An entirely appropriate thread title.

Or as Oxford dictionary of English idioms puts it: draw the first blood = 'be the first to draw blood, or to score first in some contest.'

Surely has to be Mercedes and Williams who head the field and occupy the top four. They were so much faster than anybody else during all of pre season testing. Behind them I expect Ferrari, Force India and McLaren fighting for the remaining points.

One of the Mercedes if they're reliable... Hamilton to have the edge on Rosberg.

Seb to finish would be a result in itself. If he does- think he'll get a few points- P6-P8 or something

I know you are joking, but in all seriousness I doubt teams would have the scope to mess around with team orders. With reliability being such a factor, I think teams do not care which driver makes the flag first. They will just be relieved that both of their drivers have finished!

I am probably tempting fate now, and Ferrari will try and order Kimi to give way for Alonso. Notice I said "try" in that sentence   ;)

Mercedes has done plenty of silly or even downright stupid things in the past few years, so I'm not ready to start handing out trophies just yet, even if their testing pace marks them as favourites. I'm not too impressed by Williams' drivers, unsure of where Force India and McLaren really stand, and in doubts about how strong Ferrari and Red Bull will be.

With so much uncertainty about speed, race pace, and reliability, I wouldn't be surprised if PĂ©rez won his first F1 race. :drunk:

But despite that, I voted for Vettel. It's been so long since I saw anyone else win a race that I'm not sure it's even possible for him not to win. ;)

They wouldn't have to try too hard. Just scream some profanities at him and he responds pretty sharpish ;)

I see where you are coming from.

But Mercedes have revamped their staff  so much in the last year, they may as well be a different team to the one they had in 2010-2012. Mercedes went from coming 5th in the 2012 WCC (only just ahead of Sauber) to coming 2nd in the 2013 WCC.

Mercedes are on the rise at the moment,  they seem to be a lot more competent and competitive than they once were.

For example, Lewis had zero mechanical DNF's in 2013, and only one grid penalty due to a gearbox change. Mercedes pit stops were pretty slick as well. Compare that to what Lewis had to put up with at McLaren in 2012, and you see a big difference.

What has Mercedes 2013 got to do with McLaren 2012 to show an improvement?! Same Lewis, different teams.

Rosberg was not that lucky in 2013, was he? He seemed to collect some issues....but Michael in 2012 got everything wrong from the team/car.

I think Mercedes has been a bit on the rise...however too little data to prove a trend, they've been too unstable.

What has Mercedes 2013 got to do with McLaren 2012 to show an improvement?! Same Lewis, different teams.

Simple.

Mercedes made less errors in 2013 than McLaren did in 2012. Lewis finished higher in the Championship in 2013 than he did in 2012. If it is "same Lewis, different team", then clearly Mercedes gave Lewis a better all round package in 2013, than McLaren did in 2012.

Rosberg also finished higher in 2013 than he did in 2012, showing that Mercedes themselves have got their act together. You say "very little data", but if you check the results from 2012 and compare it to the results they achieved in 2013, you see a significant improvement.

In 2013, Nico had 2 DNF's due to mechanical failure, which is not a lot for a entire race season. He also did not make the flag in Hungary, but he was still classified, and was running well down the order anyway. So he hardly had a lot of "issues"
