For 1936 Riley built a monoposto car with i.f.s. Can anybody help me with a list of its races ? Particularly, was it raced after 1936 ?

Thanks

Have you contacted Mark Gillies?

Mark has a lot of knowledge of the racing Rileys, last I heard he had moved into doing PR for Volkswagen.

In Bill Boddy's third volume of Brooklands an IFS car (Cyril Paul) and another (visually identical) beam axle car (Percy Maclure) are shown in the 1936 500 Mile Race. Both cars were said to be entered by Victor Riley, The IFS car was described as 2 litre 6 cylinder.

Jenks in his Historic Racing Cars shows Elsie Wisdom at the 1936 International Trophy in 1936 driving a car described as 'factory IFS Riley 4-cylinder

The Maclure special had the 'factory IFS', but whether it was actually an ex-works car who knows?

I hope this may be of a little help.

Peter

Thanks for the contributions. I have done a bit more digging and realised what a mine-field pre-war Rileys are !.

A T Birmingham's book has a good photo of the works car and says it dubut at the 1936 British Empire Trophy at Donington on 4th April driven by von der Becke. It wasw an early retirement. To quote "the chassis layout was such that either a 1.5 4-cyl engine or a 2.0 6-cyl engine could be installed". Birmingham's book says Brackenbury drove it in to 6th at the International Trophy in May (both races in 2.0 form). However, the photo in Jenks is of 33 which is Elsie Wisdom in a 1500cc entry so it seems Birmingham is mistaken. In fact Brckenbury's car is on the front cover of Motor Sport and is clearly a "normal" Riley.  He also says v d Becke demonstated it at the Rily Club's Lullingstone hill climb in June.

I must try to get David Styles' book !
