Hello and welcome to the inaugural round of my new game Driver of the Weekend. In each round of this game we try to answer six questions about a single driver. Since there are 22 drivers but only 19 races, the last three races will feature two drivers each (Bernie was very happy when he heard about this since effectively it means double points).  With the first race being the Australian GP, the natural driver choice for this weekend is Daniel Ricciardo. These are the questions:

Questions

  1. How many laps will Daniel complete in all the practice sessions combined?
  2. What will be Daniel's qualifying position (before any penalties are applied)?
  3. What will be Daniel's gap to to the fastest time in the last qualifying session he takes part in (rounded up to the nearest 0.1 second)?
  4. What will be Daniel's finishing position in the race or, if you think Daniel will retire from the race, how many laps will he complete (choose either finish or retirement, being classified counts as finishing the race)?
  5. How much slower than the outright fastest lap of the race will Daniel's fastest lap be (rounded up to the nearest 0.1 second)?
  6. How many times will Daniel visit the pit lane for any reason (tire change, penalty, retirement, etc.) during the race?

I might change some of them at some point if I come up with something better. Suggestions are welcome.

Scoring

A correct guess is worth 20 points and the minimum is 0 points. Fractional scores are rounded up. For incorrect guesses points are deducted in the following way:

  1. -0.5 points/lap
  2. -3 points/position
  3. -1 point/0.1 s
  4. predicted finish: -3 points/position, 0 points awarded if the driver retires
predicted retirement: 10 points if the driver actually retires, 10 points for correct lap, -0.5 points/lap, 0 points if the driver finishes the race
  5. -1 point/0.1 s
  6. -7 points/visit

I will adjust these values as the season progresses and depending on the driver in an effort to keep the difficulty level relatively constant.

Deadline

Before the first practice session.

Schedule

This schedule is preliminary, I will change drivers or add more if necessary/possible.

Couple of proposals for some changes on the schedule

Rosberg, having lived most of his life in Monaco, would be natural choice there. Also I would swap Vergne for Austria due to Red Bull connection (other three drivers have easy-to-choose races)

1. 49

2. 13th

3. 2,4 seconds

4. Retirement on lap 22

5. 4,7 seconds

6. Two (one normal stop and second to retire)

A suggestion, if I may: It could be a good idea to 'freeze' the values a few races before the end, to be fair to players (both the leaders and the ones in the chase).
