I really like Vettel, but I think Ricciardo will surprise us all.

Suprised us in what manner? Positive or negative?

Top effort by Ricciardo.

Vettel looked to be struggling even before losing his last chance at a run.

Well, if you take the start of 2012 it was half expected that finger boy would be a bit less convincing but being worst of the 4 RB drivers is surprising.

He must really miss his beloved exhaust.

"They've hired a lapdog for Seb" they said....

Fair play

Dunno what was up with Seb, couldn't get within 2 seconds of DR even on new tyres

Good job there's gonna be a heap of retirements tomorrow....

Top of the standings after 4 races in 2012 suggests not

Lets us not forget that without the blown exhaust trickery Seb struggled badly at different points against Mark. I think hes up against it this year with Dan looking very poised and focused, exciting stuff!

Top job by Dan, amazing composure.

Interesting to see what issues Seb was having, he implied they were having issues and the gap kind of backs that up.

Vettel had some major car problems since p3 soft runs, he reported it in radio and it was clearly seen on tv that car was all over the place...same in quali on dry, wierd sound when he came out of first corners. Well done by Ricciardo, I believe pole would have been his, had he used wets like other top placed drivers. Lets see how can Ricciardo will do in race tomorrow, Vettel will have catching up to do...perhaps starting from the pitlane?

Exhaust blow has nothing to do with todays results...Vettel looked stronger yesterday but had some problems with the car today that is clear.

Race

Vettel ?

Ricciardo ?

  Great job by Dan.  Surprisingly quick and consistent. Usually Vergne is the wet weather ace.

To be fair, I think there is something wrong with Seb's car.  Struggling since FP3.

Magnificent performance by Ricciardo, he really deserves it.

We'll see what went on with Vettel later on but this starts off the battle nicely.

A bit disappointed not to see Seb mixing up with everyone else in the top ten, but it was a sterling job from Ricciardo all the way throughout qualifying - fully deserved.

Friday doesn't mean much though, but even saying that, Seb did look quicker. But he is a 4xWDC so he should be. Pressures on!

Seb looked angry on interview and said car felt good yesterday but today it was far from it and they need to understand why.

Awesome drive by Ricciardo, in the wet - bringing the RBR home in 2nd!!!  That Wasn't going to happen all the commentators warned!! :D   So cool that the fighting spirit of Daniel/RBR was manifested for them all to see and eat their words.  :D

Seb will find his way through.  He's been on a backfoot many a time and never gives up!  I'm not worried.  Midgrid isn't the worst place to start, especially if we get a dry race, so Bring It On Sebi !!!!

Great job by Daniel, he has shown again just how strong he is in the wet and how fierce his single lap pace is.  Unlucky for Seb, he definitely had some sort of problems with his car.  People should note that Seb was a beast back in 2009 with a car that lacked any form of exhaust blowing.

He was a beast in 2008 as well, EBD helped him perhaps, but it was never the sole reason he is super fast

Vettel is in a great danger of beeing exposed in a way he doesnt like. Today was oil to the flames of those who still question him even after the 4wdc's.

Today Dan demoralised Vettel. Tomorrow may be another day ofcourse, yet alone will the car finish on reliability or fuel.

Daniel was smooth and tidy Seb was ragged and very untidy.

And Dan is a far better driver than his father. I lapped Joe at the 94? GP supports and he was in a better car.

And watching the Oz TV Mark Webber is very good on the commentary.

He is in no danger, this was just one qualifying that didnt went well and that's all.

One bad qualifying with problems apparently enough to undermine any past achievements.

Anyway, great job from Dan. Hopefully, race pace will be good as well. Don't really know what to expect tomorrow.

Yeah, shocking. He didn't get pole in a car with a troubled engine. How poor.

The thing is though it wasn't a single lap, he kept banging them in one after another all the way through Q2 and Q3, very impressive.

I think Seb may be a victim of RBR going after the extra horsepower, he complained about torque map 5 in P3 on the radio

Let's not get hysterical about Seb after one bad qualifying session.

Alonso spun the car and lined up 12th here in 2012...that season ended up not going too badly for him!

Great job from Dani today though, the standout performer of Quali for me.

Horner also stated on Sky that Vettel had a very down-on-power engine mode, whatever that means (not sarcasm, just that the engines are more complicated this year so I don't know exactly what he's referring to).

Hmm interesting, well on p3 in his final soft runs when problems started he did have just above 11 000 rpm out of his engine when the maximum is 15 000 so maybe it's related to that.

Moving on from quali I think it's going to be a tough race for both of them tomorrow. I think Daniel will be happier if it is wet. If it's dry a top 5 is probably the best he can hope for.

Likewise for Seb. Coming from 13th I think there's more scope for a good result if he can stay out of trouble with people putting cars into the wall, changeable strategy etc. Be much harder in the dry I suspect. On the downside, being down in 13th also makes it more likely he'll get taken out in the mid pack melee at some point.

Fantastic start by DR .... but lets see how his start goes tomorrow and if the electrical gubbins on his car make it to the end.

If wet tomorrow, I expect at least top 5 by SV and that he will beat DR to the flag.... if dry, it will be interesting to see how they each do.
