All the focus seems to be how many cars get to the finish this weekend, but I'm seriously expecting at least 1 to fail to make the starting grid, either due to a failure in quali that the team can't repair in time, a breakdown on the formation lap, or fail to get off the line.

So... I'm going to guess that 3 fail to start

1 Caterham

1 Lotus

and possibly 1 other with a failure when the lights go out (in similar fashion to Kimi's false neutral when attempting a practice start in FP)

I think 5 cars will break down, 4 Renault engined and 1 Mercedes engined. I wouldn't be surprised if at least 2 cars have problems on the grid or on the warm-up lap.

Yeah, you're probably on the money there, but with more than 1 failure when the lights go out.

I don't think any car will fail to get to the grid exclusively because of a problem in quali as they should have comfortable enough time to fix it for the race, even if all they manage to do is get to the grid and not get going on the formation lap. However, I don't think I'd be overly shocked if a car struggled to get to the grid once the pitlane opened, if a car failed to pull away for the formation lap, or (more seriously) failed to get away when the 5 lights go out.
