Oh my, Lotus hardly participated in the qualifying. Pastor Maldonado will start from the back row of the grid, Romain Grosjean one place ahead. Can't really give either points, but the weekend continues and I really think we need a:

Are they gonna let Maldonado start the race tomorrow with no qualifying time? I suppose they could make the point that the rain held them back, but the car hasn't done any competitive running all weekend.

Does it matter? Will spin out in lap 1 anyway...Are they gonna let Maldonado start the race tomorrow with no qualifying time? I suppose they could make the point that the rain held them back, but the car hasn't done any competitive running all weekend.

Grosjean car failed later, so I guess he is winning?
nothing to compare really, quite sad to see what happened to Lotus, last year winning races, and now...

Grosjean, is this even a fight ?

I would have these two as quite close, contrary to popular opinion that will probably rate Maldonado badly
Hopefully it's not too long before the car is good enough to compare them

Though with a car that still seems only barely race-ready, its never a completely fair comparison.

I must say that Maldonados off today was one of the most amateurish things I have ever seen in F1. He goes off track (it was obvious for a long time he would go off), keeps the foot down (brave, but he had already ruined his lap in the previous corner), he lose the car and.... HE STILL KEEPS HIS FOOT DOWN! Stepping on the brake when he realized he lost it would have prevented him from hitting the wall. I never thought I would see anything like that in F1. Mistakes happens, but that was not a mistake, it was stupidity.
I think Charles Pic can start to prepare for the next race because although Maldonado brings loads of cash, I doubt Lotus can afford him.

Its a real shame for Maldanado because for once, it looked like he might actually have a leg up on Grosjean this weekend.
Hmmm not.
Grosjean had a crakced floor yesterday.
When Ro Gro showed his real level, Pastor was half second slower in FP3.

Good job by Romain in what looks like a difficult car to drive. Maldonado... What can you say?

MAL looks totally out of his depth this year, quite bizarre to think that he's won a GP.

Every weekend Maldonado crashes the car, at this rate and with their financial problems Lotus won't see the season out. Unless they've a contract with PDVSA that dictates they must pay all the repairing bills.

I have a doubt, is fixing a broken wing or a PM crash that expensive? or people are just taking advantage of that to make fun of it ?

Expensive yes, but not as bad as having a driver in a competitive car make a total mess of qualifying.

Maldonado says the crash wasn't his fault at all... he never owns up to any thing even with his numerous numerous flaws
Easily the least likable driver on the grid

Re Pastor I found his excuse for hitting the wall rather amusing when interviewed (can't recall who, BBC or sky) and went something like this "the corner was too fast and the wall was too near" now you gotta love that for a driver excuse!

Hi all. First post but have been a bit of a voyeur here for a few years and enjoy the debate.

At least, he's factually correct on both counts

He has changed it now, he thinks it was the tire pressures. Pastor, please listen, it was your foot. Your right foot. You pushed it down and held it down when you shouldn't. You made a huge error of judgement and then you failed to handle the consequences.

Grosjean has been excellent this season IMO both on and off the track.

Is there such a thing as a Pastor fan club, or is that an oxymoron?

Has he made any comments about his race incident? I've not seen any so far.

Maldonado really isn't anywhere near as fast as I initially believed in 2012, having Bruno as his teammate flattered him quite a bit. This makes me question, just how fast was that Williams FW34?

For me, it looked like Pastor was back to his good days since Austrian GP (where he outperformed Grosjean by a huge margin in Q, and I would say in the race too, despite the pit lane start for Romain, and then seemed quicker of the two around Silverstone until the failure of the car in Q, then he was ahead of Grosjean again in the race until the collision that wasn't his fault), but then again bang, and he is nowhere in qualifying again.
Bottas also had the measure of him in qualifying last year. I have no idea how was Pastor able to be that impressive qualifier in FW34. Surely that car couldn't be THAT good in qualifying trim. It needed to suit Pastor better than the cars he had in the last two years.

Finally a good quali by Maldonado, his laps in Q1 were pretty good.
