I'm glad I'm going out for the day...I'll be back when the air has cleared...

If there is a issue he'll get disqualified.

is that even possible. I thought there was a device that limited the flow rate or does it just measure the flow rate?

Wibba luck...

I think they have just a standard measuring unit.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:31
Oh dear.
That is strange. I would've thought that there is some sort of limiter that just wouldn't allow it to go over the specified value. Red Bull should've waited a few races before starting with the shady business.

Is it unlucky or RB up to something? Either way hopefully a double podium for Macca boys!
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:34
He'll always have the memories of being on the podium at his home race in his RB debut, even if the points are gone.

Adam Cooper @adamcooperF1 46sFIA says @danielricciardo's car "has exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100kg/h"9:33 AM - 16 Mar 2014
Oops.
And the FIA said that there would be no leniency.
First podium down the dunny?
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:39
Hate to say it, but if in breach, sounds like an instant disqualification...
Rules are rules, though.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:39
That is very strange. How could Red Bull allow it to happen "consistently"?
It won't do their reputation of building legal F1 cars any good, that's for sure!
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:40
From the Seb vs Daniel thread
The FIA homologated Gill sensor used to measure fuel flow-rate malfunctioned during FP3 and gave an erroneous reading (excessively high reading over the 100kg/hr limit). This prompted Renault Sports to give a revised engine mapping to Vettel - down on power to ensure compliance with the fuel flow rate limit.
This faulty sensor was fixed for the race. But according to Vettel, his ICE was misfiring on 2 cylinders during the race. We'll get a better insight once Renault Sports release their press statement post Australian GP race.
Wonder if it's the same problem?
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:43
If it's correct then can't be anything but a DQ. Surprised he didn't run out of fuel.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:43
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:43
Well, unless it is faulty, it is obviously going to be an automatic DQ as everyone was told there'd be no leniency and a DQ would be the automatic punishment.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:44
So if he gets kicked out of the race the revised result would move everyone 'up' a place?
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:45
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:45
lets see how ballsy the FIA is

Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:47
NOOOO!!!Hopefuly Redbull can wriggle out of this one, they always do.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:48
If a car has 100 kg fuel on board and it consistently exceeds the 100 kg/h consumption, how can it run for well over an hour?
PS. I'm NOT asking seriously, I just found the wording of the thing a bit funny.
Consistently, not constantly.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:48
So if he gets kicked out of the race the revised result would move everyone 'up' a place?
Yes, that's right, so Button will end up on the podium (without going on the podium) for example
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:48

They might choose to save their get-out-of-jail-free cards on Vettel should he need it though.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:49
No way they get out of this one, "consistently" exceeded would mean they had a pace advantage during the race.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:49
Wow, tough break.
Hopefully he can use it as motivation though.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:49
From the Seb vs Daniel thread

Maybe they decided to play it safe with Vettel and to go with risky strategy with Daniel just to see if they can get away with this.

Would explain why he could compete with Magnussen.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:51
But how can they exceed 100kg/h? I thought it was limited (electronically/mechanically)?
Or does this mean that they burned more than 100kg of fuel for the race?
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:52
That would be a great shame for Ricciardo.
Renault took 'teams will have maximum power available'' a bit too far.
The french have never been good at electrics and electronics. The reason why I sold my first car.

In a preview-thread here, I answered "Red Bull" to the question around controversies. Didn't think it would be so soon.
....but I can't believe they've knowingly set the fuel rate above the limit.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:53
We're hearing Ricciardo has been disqualified for using more than 100kg/hr of fuel in race. Will post FIA confirmation ASAP
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:53
Disqualified
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:53
What the hell.
Posted 16 March 2014 - 09:53
Would explain why he could compete with Magnussen.
He was doing fine vs Kev, it was more the stint on the mediums where he was struggling more so I would say it was more the tires than the fuel rate going by the radio messages he was conserving fuel in the earlier stints. We don't know exactly when exactly during the race he was exceeding the rate itself.

I think the document is poorly phrased, 'cause it's about the flow rate isn't it?

Because things can fail to work as expected.
KK's brakes should have failed safe, yet didn't.

beat me to it.
I'm not familiar with the 2014 rules, but everywhere the emphasis has been on only having 100kg for the race.
So this concept seems strange to limit to restrictor plate racing for this new " high tech f1 era".
Maybe rules are rules, but the law is an ass. If I was RBR I would challenge any dq on the basis that "the car used 100 kg over 93 or so minutes" and stick to my guns.
cheers
