Apparently all the spectators arrived in Australia by bicycle or sail boat.

If you can get to Australia by bicycle I may consider going next year...

Strictly speaking, this item from our National Broadcaster may not be entirely relevant but I think that it strikes the right note regarding the new formula.  It aired last evening.

Yes, thanks for that - I like the idea of taking 'em to court!

This has been examined in some depth on RC.  The general view is that it is legally nonsense.  Although the idea of taking Bernie to court does seem to be growing more popular by the day...

Funny, I thought the comparison between old and new was very favourable for the generation of 2014: they sounded like engines, and not like chainsaws on steroids - a BIG improvement! Too bad that my opinion counts for absolutely nothing, as I am not interested in watching fast-moving billboards in hour-long TV commercials (you can name it all you want, but this has nothing at all to do with Grand Prix racing).

The biggest problem here is that yet again the people who run F1 do not have the slightest clue what a bunch of idiots  they appear to the general public. Ricciardo's exclusion amounts, in tabloid speak ,to " Aussie GP hero thrown out for putting his foot down too hard". It is idiotic that we have rules which nobody outside the F1 bubble knows about , or would give a tinker's cuss about if the public were aware. Maximum  fuel? Whatever ; plenty of examples from the past showing that thirsty engines get beaten by more efficient ones  and if there is a limit why on earth can't the driver use the fuel as he sees fit? The Times was scathing about this - and rightly so.

But I'll be watching the Malaysian GP as usual...

don't agree.

the tabloid version all over the World (especially Denmark, where I am located) read: "Ricciardo disqualified. RBR cheating". Only in Australia (and prolly the Aussie diaspora) does it show like you said John ;)

Brian from UCOS has said he will be looking at how Gerry was able to pick up a power surge from balcony above pit box that allowed him to pass Jack just before flag.

Strickland is trying to find Sandra for an explanation or else he is going to shut the entire op. down.

I don't agree either, RBR think the rules don't apply to them, they've been working on naive or sympathetic journalists to get coverage like that misguided Times piece. The rest of the F1 world isn't impressed, it's not impossible that their penalty will be increased. Current F1 rules may be sometimes illogical and overcomplicated, but they're the same for everyone.

O/T Not wishing to put in any spoilers, but I think you must be at least one series behind ... :)

Just like we get Ricciardo coming second last weekend "endlessly"

My thoughts " give them all 200 litres and if they run out before the finish, stiff they don't win"

What's the most that Red Bull can be fined for making a frivolous complaint against Ricciardo's disqualification?

The only hope for F1 is proper discipline, but we all know that isn't going to happen.

In relation to Le Mans.

In 1956, didn't Mike Hawthorn spend the last few hours " touring around" in the works D Type  - by far the fastest car on the circuit  - because of some fuel usage restriction?

So what is new?

Perhaps SUs are in order?

That should fix it...

Give each team a 1ΒΌ" HS2 and use that as a fuel and air restrictor.

i couldn't agree with doug more!

in fact i will go further. formula 1 has descended into a PC pile of crap, it certainly isn't racing any longer. they need to rip all the kers and batteries out of the cars and boost those motors up to about 1000 hp and turn them loose to race the entire dam race!!! oh yea they should take all those ugly wings off and make shure the bottoms of the cars are flat.  then we would see some real racing again

as ever ed

Why does F1 pretend to be environmentally friendly when they use tyres that only last a few laps - getting rid of obligatory pitstops would help improve the 'show'..

Something the last F1 event did show was that an excess of power over grip makes the cars move around more and provided overtaking opportunities without any need for video game style push to overtake features, which confirms the need to get rid of aero downforce (which has no relevance to road car technology if they want to pursue that myth).

Likewise ban radios, leave it up to the driver to work out what he needs to do - it would also save a fortune in staff (no need for 'drivers' sitting in a simulator miles away doing the same race etc.).

Peter, I think the only two rules upon which one can rely in today's version of Formula One are 1) The pursuit of money and 2) Dissimulation.

The points that Edtheshred and you make are so sensible that the overlords of F1 would be horrified. No... correction, they'd ignore you/us as usual. Rule 1 always trumps everything and if that's insufficient on its own, Rule 2 applies.

Gary

Sounds like when I suggested to the FIA that they supplied the teams with standard internals (e.g. crank, rods etc) that way they would control revs, power etc. (I believe the public don't care about the stuff they can't see).

Max M. wrote back saying that the teams were already spending millions on just inlet trumpet design so it wouldn't save money.

e.g. completely missed the point in the same way as they do when you suggest they should have spec. wings, brakes, and then leave it up to the teams to do what they want with them.

So called innovations in F1 these days are just better polished turds!

Peter
