The law could be changed to allow competitive motor sport to take place on public roads due to a possible change in legislation which recently entered the consultation stage. The amendment to the Road Traffic Act could give local authorities the power to suspend speed limits and applicable road regulations, to be temporarily replaced with motor sport regulations.

I would imagine the red tape to make that happen would fill a few lorries....

But it would bring a GP in London a step nearer...

Sadly the reality is different. The MSA are hoping for 20 events in due course. In terms of rallies, I reckon there might just be two get off the ground. Events like the Jim Clark memorial Rally and the Tour of mull have bene around for over 40 years so locals have been brought up with them. Trying to go into a rural area and find say, two loops of 30 miles without a lot of objection now would be very difficult. Perhaps places like north Wales where night road rallies still take place might be the best option.

There may be possibilites for hill climbs and sprints like the various demo events that have sprung up but the cost and effort in getting a track licence and the the safety side sorted would be huge. I can't see club level motorsport benefiting.

Like most politicians the French variety are rissoles, but 2009 saw the 50th anniversary of a friend's win at a long defunct road circuit. With the help of the Friends of the Circuit the Mayor and the local fuzz were prevailed upon to allow open exhaust cars to circulate in commemoration of that long ago event. The Mayor, who was only 6 at the time of the race almost wept, the winning car, which was present, baptised his suede shoes with brown gunge and we were asked to return for the 60th anniversary. (doubtful as the driver will be 98 by that time).
