Welcome to the paper clip!

clippy1.jpg

Argh! No! Not that clip!

This clip!

Martinsville-Speedway-Paper-Clip.jpg

Martinsville Speedway, a half a mile erm... oval, located close to the town of the same name (actually, Ridgeway is closer, but hey, who cares?)

Now... in a recent thead I wrote that Nascar has Daytona, Formula 1 has Monaco. The truth should be "Nascar has Martinsville" because this is the only track that has been used in every single year since Bill France set up Nascar. Yes, this fairly basic racetrack is older than Daytona Speedway, heck, it's problably older than most tracks in use today! And to help us keep track of how old the track is the race promoters give away a couple watches, for old times sake.

1382987520000-USP-NASCAR-Goody-s-Fast-Re

At the time of this writting Practice 1 has ended and Denny Hamlin (the dude who won two pointless races this year) is on top. Martinsville expert

and strong contenter to the Montoya Trophy Jeff Gordon (the dude above) is in the top 5.

Speaking of Montoya, Nascar has finally unveiled the new Air Titan, funny coincidence that it happens close to the Indycar opener, I mean, not trying to imply Montoya is an hazard to cleaners...

Silverado's

And of course no RAM's around because the manufacturer keeps dodging Nascar.

2_RAMCD1.jpg

Ahem!

So, we finally have the proper 3 tier weekend going. Go to Jayki's website for further information because im too on top of the hour and no one stepped up to make the thread and RL issues prevent me to brainstorm further.

Motors TV will not air the Nationwide-after-this-year-no-longer-on-your-side live nor air delayed the D.. Truck race. The duck! Oh wait! There isn't Kylewide racing this weekend!

Wire the usual paycheck to the nigerian representative closest to you and shut up if the servers go down. It's stolen signal! Go steal your own if you are unhappy!

The Sprint Cup race is sponsored by STP which is a good excuse to bring back a legendary livery (Williams, please take note)

According to my calculations (ehem!), taking into consideration the summer time begins on Sunday, green flag should be around 19:12 CET, which should be around 13:12 ET, supposing summer time is also in use there already.

Does qualifying a surprising 10th rate a necessary mention?

She tends to run really really well at Martinsville for some reason. Better than the restrictor plate tracks probably.

Why does every car have a green windshield strip at the top? It's still the normal one with the driver's name and engine badge, but they're all on a green background now.

It's not St Patrick's Day, it's not Earth Day, so... ?

Such a curious track, Martinsville. All the history and prestige you could ask for, yet it's essentially racing round a carpark. Probably the closest thing you'll find to a street circuit in NASCAR.

And what the hell, go Danica! I say she'll get a top 5 finish.

5:30pm local time, 10:30 UK, 11:30 for western Europe I guess. The fowl timing is a quacking nightmare I know, but I canard see waddle we can do about it.

100 mph lap barrier finally broken this weekend by Hamlin in practice and then Logano in qualifying. Can't think of another track on the circuit that has more defined usual contenders - invariably Johnson/Gordon/Hamlin with Kyle and Kenseth possibly in the mix this time.
