I thought he was given a stop/go penalty during the race for this?
Edit: Didn't read the tweet. Pretty harsh but I guess they are sending out a message so it's fair enough.

Better than giving meaningless penalties when his race was already over. Penalties should actively penalise you.

I'm not a fan, but you've got to be kidding me?
I don't like a person being kicked when he's down but this is like going back a bit later with some shovels
#8

Gee, that's a bit harsh. Oh well, never mind. Keep (silly) grinning Dan!
#9
Posted 30 March 2014 - 10:55
So he gets two penalties for the same offense? once in the race and another for the next? Ouch...

Webber story all over again.

Posted 30 March 2014 - 10:58
While he also looked to be at fault for ignoring red light :
- he lost 1 min at the pitsop
- he was given a stop and go
- his wing might have been damaged at that botched stop losing another lap
- he was given a 10 place drop
Talk about overkill
But judging by the two other penalties for the contacts in the race i have to ask : are the stewards complete morons?

Not punished enough I guess, losing position, being a lap down and finally retiring. Is there also a financial penalty for the team?
#14
Posted 30 March 2014 - 10:59
Why not three penalties for the same offence? Four?
#15
Posted 30 March 2014 - 10:59
Am pretty sure the 10 place penalty is an autumatic one for any unsafe release. Harsh, but they need to be very careful with loose wheels in particular.
#16
Posted 30 March 2014 - 11:00
Why dont they just kill him?
#17
Posted 30 March 2014 - 11:01
Well what was the point in the 10 second stop/go penalty then?! Im not a fan of Red Bull, but this is extremely unfair.

This is good. The number of shameless and dangerous unsafe releases in the past few years warrants the harsher penalties.
Teams have been warned more than enough, but keep pushing their luck. They've now found the FIA waiting for them with a baton.
I'm all in favour of less (sporting) regulations on track, but with all the people walking around the pitlane it's too dangerous a place to be behaving like a clown.

The others took the in race penalties they were given, Ricciardo didn't, harsh, but thems the rules, plain and simple

If a penalty must be imposed I would much rather see a constructors points penalty.

We'll he could have killed someone else with that loose wheel in the pit lane.
Sends the right message, it's about safety.

This is un****ing believable!
He's already been penalised 3 times:
1. Lost time after being towed back and wheel redone.
2. Lost time after losing FW after damage sustained in pit lane.
3. Race stop/go penalty.
4. 10 place penalty.
Why don't they fine the team? Why don't they give the mechanic(s) who screwed up a race suspension?
#27

Technically he didn't serve his stop/go penalty. It is not a stop/retire penalty

So it was another stuff up by RBR considering he was a lap down anyway...talk about having a **** start with the team. Maybe this is the FIA's way of trying to get RBR to drop their fuel flow appeal. Just penalize the crap out of the team.

The mechanics aren't going to slow down. They need an automated system that detects when all wheels are safely fastened.

It has happened to Webber and Ricciardo more times than i'd like to count.

Why don't they just crucify the poor boy.
This is nothing more than a public stoning of a man buried in the ground with only his head visible.
Redbull are not going to like this and Horner is going to raise hell on it

May be more trouble for RBR
Red Bull summoned to explain why a mechanic was not wearing his helmet during a pitstop.

...and the damage goes to Ricciardo, one of the nicest blokes on the grid...but that's life.
While we are at it, might I suggest that his bank accounts are to be blocked and he's to wear a paper bag of shame the next race? enough is enough...

That's the point, german commentator said, he will likely will get a 10 grid penalty because his stop and go was not severed right, big mistake by Red Bull

I am not sure about the precedence, in previous years if someone didn't serve the penalty due to retirement it was forgotten. Now we have cumulative penalties that carry over from race to race.
RBR tried to be smart about it, they even held him for 10 secs, before turning the car to the garage.
I don't know if this is fair. He already screwed up his race with the loose wheel. On the other hand, trying to game the system, voluntarily retiring to get fresh parts for the next race is not a penalty.

Well, if you keep breaking rules, expect to be punished.

The obvious outcome is that Ric will have to start the next race with a 10 place penalty and a helmet full of bees as suitable punishment.

Not strictly true. Sato received a penalty for passing under yellow at the '07 US GP before spinning off. The penalty was converted into a 10-place grid penalty for the next race. Precedence really doesn't apply given there isn't standardised, accountable stewarding.

Well I do believe in protecting the pitlane. However, I wish the penalty was place more heavily on the team rather than on the driver.

c) If a car is deemed to have been released in an unsafe condition during a race the driver
concerned will receive a ten grid place penalty at the driver’s next Event. However, if
any car released in an unsafe condition is able to resume the race a penalty under
Article 16.3© will also be imposed on the driver concerned.
A new rule for this season. An unsafe release is a guaranteed 10 place grid penalty, as well as a possible in-race penalty.
