Quite a broad question this one folks, but something I'd love to hear your opinions on.
One of the things that constantly comes up in F1 and motorsport when it comes to driver selection is the issue of money over talent. Early last season for example there was a lot of talk about the amount of pay drivers taking seats over well regarded drivers without budget.
This led me to thinking, why do supposedly talented drivers struggle to secure funding so much? From a slightly simplistic perspective, if some of their less talented peers, who have less of a body of success to refer to can find backing, surely drivers with success and pedigree in the junior formulas should be able to?
In the cases of some drivers obviously they're helped by being from certain country or having wealthy parents, but you'd think it would make sense for companies with holes burning in their advertising budgets to back a winning horse, rather than one tootling around the back...
It's a very general question with probably many complex elements to it, but the model just seems slightly topsy turvey.
