But surely it's only a matter of time until this is a full time swap?

I know there are those who think Hulkenberg will end up at Ferrari, but the 'Ferrari Acadamy' has to bear fruit soon, and bianchi may be the justification for it. He'd be cheap too, if they end up paying raikkonen AGAIN to not race...

Perhaps they'll soon realise it may be better to get a passionate young-gun with something to prove in the car, rather than a demotivated guy banking the cash pre-retirement in the twilight of his career.

I think it's quite telling that Bianchi is getting the nod rather that DeLaRosa or Alonso... Surely they'd rather have Alonso in the actual car than in the simulator unless they had decided to evaluate something other than parts on the car...

How do you know that Kimi is demotivated?

Just in case Raikkonen won't be ready for Hockenheim due to health issues they can put Bianchi in. Full testing day, not like Fisi in 2009.

I hear Lotus are testing 18 inch wheels today, I think they would be a good move for the sport, less temp sensitive I would imagine.

Won't a dramatically lower tyre profile demand a huge change to the suspension setup (or even construction)?

I predict less grip with smaller margins (but I haven't done the maths).

If any of them get promoted to race drivers I hope they get the chance to choose their own number.

Don't have a clue about that, I think until they start a full season they have to keep the assigned number.

I dont live far from Silverstone and would ahve liked to go and see testing. See the new cars etc.

So went on the website, only to find it is 30 quid on the day!

For Gods sake, what a pathetic, money grabbing, sinister load of rubbish.

I know it's F1 but deary me I find that utterly incredulous I really do.

ITS testing, do security staff and a burger van really cost you that much you greedy little cretins?

It's a bit of a joke, even if they did something where they had a donation pot for example, I'm sure everyone would chuck a few quid in as they passed

At least if Red Bull adopt the same run strategy tomorrow I won't miss many of Vettel's laps by the time I eventually get there!

People seriously think Ferrari is considering replacing Raikkonen with Bianchi, just because Bianchi is testing tomorrow?  Then you have no clue at all.

Was a fun day at Silverstone.  Have many photos to sort out - have put some on my usual site - http://www.scottmbailey.com

Looking forward to see the 18" rims on the Lotus tomorrow!  ...Lotus did suprise us today sending Pastor out on front inters and rear slicks at one point! I'll get all the photos up ASAP! :)

Jules was banging in the laps in the Marussia... he seemed out all day!  Some excellent consistent driving.  I really look forward now to see what he will do in the F-14T.

PS - If my website crashes (as it does) - you can also find them here - https://picasaweb.go...at=embedwebsite

Test today going well, plenty of running by most teams except Merc since its early spin in the gravel and Caterham which has hardly been out (unless I keep missing it). It very windy at Silverstone today but not raining at least.

I agree, Kimi is probably going to stay for 2015 but he needs to up his game for that to happen, however there is a realistic chance Kimi won't be fit for Germany so Bianchi might be looking at a Gp start for Ferrari.

I understand the principle of being upset about £30, but that's an absolute bargain to see an F1 car in action IMO - with choice of any seat in the house (almost).

Regardless of how cheap/free it is in Spain - £30 would get you a damn good day out at Silverstone, and if I were in the country right now I'd be there!

Bianchi 0.164s ahead of Chilton. Pretty evenly matched! Too bad that one is driving a Ferrari and the other a Marussia  :well:

Caterham are finally back running and Lewis has done a few runs this afternoon. Red Bull has not been out for several hours , or Lotus after trying the 18" tyres.

I guess if you want to see an F1 car that desperately and you have to pay over the odds in your own country then 30 quid might be cheap.

But when you consider how expensive it is these days to watch F1 at all in the UK, paying 30 quid to watch a test session I think is quite frankly tantamount to robbery!

it is not competitive, you ahve no guarantee of running and you certainly can not go anywhere in the vwnue as mentioned, only restricted access apparently.

That is more expesive than just about any arce date in teh UK.  You can get into BSB, BTCC, GT racing. WEC at Silverstone (why you would beother beats me)  not sure about Blancpain, DTM etc.

there are very few facilities on site, and really what is tyhat money paying for?

When I emailed Silverstone years ago I was told it was largely to pay for security and stewards!  And even then after years of it being free I think it was 15 quid.

30 quid for stewards, thats dearer than most lower league football stadiums in a sport where violence is expected!

Cmon guys, this is complete and utter robbery and shame on anyone who went there in my opinion

Seems that teams have two test numbers so that they are next to each other.

Red Bull 15&16

Mercedes 23&24

Ferrari 28&29

Lotus 30&31

McLaren 32&33

Force India 34&35

Sauber 36&37

Toro Rosso 38&39

Williams 40&41

Marussia 42&43

Caterham 45&46

Alhough I agree with your point, I'm not going to be critical of anyone who has gone there.

I live in Scotland and to see a 90-minute football match from one of Europe's poorest leagues, you are paying minimum £25 to see the biggest club play at home.

So I wouldn't compare it to football if I were you.

I'm part of the problem...

Decided to go in the end after finishing work at 1 and being a relative local to the track I was spectating before 2. I actually spoke to someone (a nice bonus of the quieter engines) who had come all the way from Weston Super Mare and it just made me realise how lucky I am with how close I am.

The short time I was there was honestly more than enough because only a tiny amount of the track was open (literally the last corner to the first corner...) which was far less than last year when it was half the price?

Shame they restricted us to the pits straight really.

Abbey is flat, even if it nice to see the commitment through there. Club is an acceleration zone and the only bit of intrigue was watching them brake into the Vale. That surprised me just how they can stop on a sixpence.

The accuracy of the drivers was spot on though and to the untrained eye, I had no idea who was going quick, even if I noticed the Caterham was pretty steady into Abbey! How these experts can tell if someone is hustling/struggling, missing a tenth here is surreal!

Thanks. I imagine that this would be a fundamental change to how tires degrade and how they can be run.

Quite enjoyed my day. Made the trip up from Essex with my brother. Not been to the track since it was re-developed and I thought there were some nice spots for photos - slowly worked our way around from Vale in the morning to the exit of Club by the end.

I thought the cars were still plenty loud enough in person. Really gruff sounding on the pit limiter. Those 18 inch rims on the Lotus looked horrendous though IMO.

It happened around a part of the track that was off limits for viewing. The car was returned to the pits under a tarp on a truck, so I couldn't see too much, but there were some wonky looking wheels and it was seemingly without the rear wing.

I would suggest that if you are not happy with the pricing, don't go.

Move on.

Oh yeah, those first world problems.
