First it was Traction Control on the Red Bull, now this: http://www.minardi.i...ve-bmw-ready-to-come-back-in-formula-1/

Even if this rumour is even slightly true, May seems late to start a campaign for 2015.

Don't you mean May seems a bit late for a 2015 start?

No way they could enter in 2015. Also for 2016 they would have to spend even more than Mercedes to catch up. Looks like a bad business.

Depends how far they have developed already.

I can easily see them coming back into F1, the new engine spec must be very appealing to a manufacturer like BMW (Audi/VW - Porsche etc... I'd imagine they are all looking at it, even if that's as far as it gets)

It would (will?) be good to see AMG (Mercedes) go up against the M division of BMW!

I'd like to see Minardi back myself... I still have the hat I bought at the Belgian GP in '98.

They should just stay away. COuple of bad races and they'll run away again like in 2009.

Really, they left Sauber in deep sh*t and now they want to come back like nothing happened? Please stay away. Same goes for Toyota, except they didn't leave a team in deep sh*t.

Yes, if there is any truth to this rumour then BMW would of started their engine project at least a year ago. If they were to start now, it is hard to see them joining for a good few years.

Either way, another engine manufacturer would be welcome, but as yet this is nothing but an unsubstantiated rumour in one publication.

Rumour or not... Mercedes now have F1 locked down and Audi have Le Mans. BMW doesn't really have anything exceptional (as far as I am aware, ignore me if that's wrong  :p) going for them giving them pedigree today. So it could be possible.

It has been denied by a BMW spokesperson in Bild.de saying that "Formel 1 ist kein thema":

BMW would be great.... I'd love to see them return; imagine: Mercedes, McLaren Honda, Ferrari, Lotus-Renault.

Red Bull-BMW?

Porsche will have Audi at Le Mans....

BMW has DTM.

BMW's M road cars are better than the AMG ones. If BMW turn up in F1 and get utterly spanked. I see them losing out majorly to Mercedes in the road car stakes as well.

You left Honda off that list, and they did leave a team in the shite.  Admittedly that team went on to win both the WDC and WCC the next season.

In truth, I have no problem at all with manufacturers coming and going as their finances, management, marketing priorities, whatever dictates.  I'd rather they came in and stayed, but reality is different from idealism.  I'd also rather we had significantly more privateers, but then again the same reality vs idealism applies.

Honda did leave and sold the team to Ross Brawn, but if I recalled correctly, Honda did help fund Brawn's 2009 campaign, so they are not 100% just left people hanging.

If that was leaving a team in the shite, I can think of about 10 teams who would be asking where they can find some!

I respectfully disagree.

Toyota apologized hundred and one time. To the fans, to the media, and openly admitting failure, together with the rising costs.

Honda did the same, but, gave enough money to Ross Brawn to run the team and factory for 1 whole year, before letting him decide what to do with it. They also sold the team to him for just 1 pound i think. They had hearts, and they know how it would affect the people working in the team.

Bloody BMW ran away, tried to sell the team to so dodgy consortium, didn't apologize, left the employees future hanging. Nothing. Thank goodness Peter Sauber stepped in and secured the team, as well as the employees future.

I rather have VW or Lambo or Peugeot back in F1 rather than BMW.

The should make a rule that manufacturers can only supply engines too teams and not own them. The teams complain about costs and they are right but the costs went through the roof due to organisations like Toyota and Honda trying to send themselves too a World Championship

And Ferrari who started the arms race in F1 is exempted of course.
