It is for mp4-30 not for the last race.

The concept is for implementation on the MP4-30, but this specific version is developed for the MP4-29.

For the race, there just wasn't enough time to tune the mechanical and aero setup of the car around this new wing as Ron Dennis has explained.

To think someone got paid for that strategy makes me so angry and sad...

Is there any way to contact McLaren and ask them who the hell is responsible for Mission Control. Those talentless hacks needs clean up like aero department.

Considering where JB was in the first half, the second half has been excellent from him  Not so much the team

Kevin's strategy was a disaster. We could easily have finished 5th and 6th. Kevin's pace was very good with prime at the beginning despite his contact. Why the hell did they pit him? and even more so why did they put super softs on his car in the middle of the race?

Great job from Jenson

I don't think Kevin's pace was particularly good throughout the race - he was slower than Jenson, sometimes horribly so, despite Jenson having not had a long run in practice.  But yeah, I don't really understand his strategy.

Who decides the strategy these days? Boulier?

Alonso just confirmed that he's going to McLaren next year. We'll have arguably the best driver of the grid which is a great step forward and a new motivation for the team. We need a good car which is capable of winning, he'll finish the job.

It'll tough decision between Button and Magnussen. Maybe they can say Magnussen to sit as a third driver for 1 more year and give JB his last chance for next year. Alonso-Button combo would be mega for WCC!

If it is true then McLaren will be a formidable package with Alonso on board. And, yes, it has to be JB and that should not be in doubt

How exactly will it be tough? From, you know, common sense standpoint?

The only tough thing I see is coming up with an elaborate enough story to aPPEAR at least somewhat believable that justifies picking Magnussen over Button while remaining at least somewhat believable.

Or they can go with "we just like Kevin more". Which, again, makes them very much like quite a many a poster here. This is totally fine, if you merely are a poster in an internet board, but if tens of millions of dollars depend on said decision this seems to be a bit dumb way to go at things.

Nearly as happy that it is this cars last race as I was about the MP4-28 I hope that the MP4-30 will be far better!

Fernando told the former king of Spain, and he made the mistake to say it in live TV, clearly it was told in confidence but the former king didn't care much about it.

Back on topic, please.

This thread is to discuss the McLaren MP4-29, that is, the car.

For future driver's discussion we already have a Silly Season Thread, a Where will Alonso go Thread and a Who will drive for McLaren Thread:

Goodbye MP4-29.  It was hard to love you.

There are reasons to feel better about the future.  We were very worried when things started to go wrong last year that McLaren were going to 'do a Williams'.  Now we hope that next year McLaren will do a Williams!

K-Mag was in front of the train with Alonso Vettel and Button and reported that his tyres are lasting well. Somehow that led to McLaren piting him

McLaren will use the young driver program as a means of justifying Mag and that thank Jenson for being a great driver and team player. They wont mention anything avout their previous comment regarding wanting the two best drivers available

danish commentators mentioned this also, but it could also mean the opposite if they planned it that way no

HIs pace wasn't good, Ric was pulling away from him at more than a second a lap. Kimi was also catching him very fast.

Keeping ahead of a train is all very well, but if you are not going fast, you won't finish well.

Kevin mentioned in his danish TV coverage post race interview that McLaren pitted him to give him free air to make the new tyres count.  Kevin said that, while it made good sense to him, he simply couldn't find the pace on the new tyres.

The fact that Kevin couldn't find the pace was somewhat unfortunate, yes, but surely not something that can be blamed on the strategy team?

Bit frustrating;
“Kevin eventually pitted on lap 21, and, on Options, proceeded to manage his tyre wear almost too well, for his rubber was still in good fettle at the end of that stint; in hindsight, perhaps we should have instructed him to push a bit harder, which he easily could have done, but it’s easy to say that after the event and, anyway, that’s racing."

Not the way I saw it; they were pretty much on his tail. Not enough for an overtaking move, but Vettel got a lovely sight of his gearbox for a lot of laps.

Well, like others have said, goodbye MP29. You've been better than your predecessor (more reliable too) but in all honesty, we won't miss you that much.

Now, onto the future. Any idea hos the next year's noses will be? this year's car could have been, at least by aspect, a real beauty... if it hadn't been for that horrid nose job...

ATM, you can have an idea by having a look at the nose that Lotus tested in Austin I believe:

1414797114.jpg

1414701151.jpg

Following the backlash over "ugly" nose designs in 2014, the FIA moved to amend the rules surrounding nose designs for the 2015 season. Noses will now be lower than in 2014, retaining a minimum cross section, but they must taper to a point at a fixed linear rate, effectively outlawing the dramatic finger shapes seen in 2014 in favour of a more gradual shape. Furthermore, the design of the nose must be symmetrical and consistent with the centreline of the car, thereby banning the more exotic designs, such as the "twin-tusk" approach used byLotus on the E22 chassis.

Doesn't look too different from this year's Mercedes and Ferrari...but yeah, definitely better than the ant-eater. In a red-white livery, this would probably look quite good, actually.

It certainly didn't look that way to me..? Vettel never got in a position to overtake him. The gap was actually getting bigger before the pitstop: http://macofan.com/e...Kevin Magnussen

It was a typical DRS train.

What happens is that you get a driver who is unable to overtake, in spite of having the benefit of DRS. Faster cars then close up and join the train, but are unable to overtake because each has a car in front with DRS.

Kevin was slow, Vettel wasn't much quicker. The important thing was that each time he got to turn 7 he was normally within 1 second of Kevin.
