Why was Adrian Newey at the Silverstone WEC event during the Chinese GP race weekend? I've been hearing all weekend that Newey stayed behind to work on updates to the RB10, but it seems he didn't spend his whole weekend at the grindstone.

Red Bull are based in Milton Keynes, so Newey could've been there and back in his lunch hour.

However I have no doubt that Porsche are considering throwing-money-at-Newey as their Plan B for Le Mans success.

Or maybe just this?

"With the 6 Hours of Silverstone going on this weekend, he simply decided to go enjoy the event."

Adrian Newey didn't get where he is today by doing anything simply.

Perhaps he fancied watching the action?

I do not think he is interested in LeMans to be honest, but I also think he will not stay much longer in F1.

1) What has he left to prove

2) He as made it a dream of his to design a race winning yacht, as we all know this is his first passion

3) He is not getting any younger

Of course he's interested in Le Mans, he competed there a few years ago.

I suspect he was mostly likely there to support his mate Webber and to indulge both his professional and fan curiosity.

Whatever the purpose of it, I'm pretty sure it means Red Bull are cheating.

More like Porsche (or one of the VAGs) to F1.

Oops........ Did I just say that?

Gordon Murray said Le Mans more interesting and exciting than F1 to develop for so it goes without saying other designers might instinctively feel the same way. Though Newey's wants to build a sailing boat.

Should've come to Silverstone on Sunday then.

He seems to have run his course at Red Bull. Work a few years for a team. Win races, title, then a slight drop-off before he bolts. Three teams, three similar results. Why make it a fourth?

I could imagine Newey would like to add a Le Mans victory to his CV, and designing a LMP1 could be really refreshing for the old dog!

He could probably use more if his talent with the Michelin tyres that they are using, not "limiting" the car to save Pirellis all day.

But this time I only think it was for fun :)

That picture sums it all up. Clearly Mark Webber is the secret mastermind of Red Bull's amazing cars and Newey is coming to him for advice. Without Webber, they're lost.

:p

Oddly it was a driver who got him to jump from McLaren to Red Bull... Makes you wonder :)

Newey likes motor racing, and enjoys watching it. I've been at low key non-F1 events where Newey was present just enjoying the action, he even handed out some trophies on one occasion.

Would be sad to see Newey leave and Red Bull wind things down.  I think Red Bull would still be great without Newey.  But perhaps Newey leaving would still be a bad omen or signal that Red Bull are content with what they've already achieved.

Would be boring to just have Mercedes running laps around everyone else.  Ferrari and McL seem like has-beens busy trying to keep up with Force India et al these days.  Red Bull has been the most exciting thing in F1.

If you're going to do rumours, put some effort in.
Facts:
Porsche LMP1 team has 2 'ex' Red Bull drivers
Helmut Marko has Porsche connections
Adrian Newey in the Porsche pits

It can only mean one thing:
The Porsche 919 is really just a ruse, an RB10 with a fibreglass shell over it, allowing RBR to run an illegal testing program at F1 circuits right under our noses

WAKE UP SHEEPLE !!!!!

D.M.N. was also there. I hear rumours Porsche are going to snap him up as team principal. Childcare F1 forum administration is pretty relevant work experience if you ask me...

So he's supposed to stay locked up at Red Bull factory all time, and if he's photographed elsewhere, at another event, he's jumping ship? First boats, now Enduro races? Gimme a break...

He signed a contract with Red Bull in 2011 till the end of 2014. Did he renew it?
