So let's update our affiliations, after a quarter of the 2014 season.

You can pick as many as you like, though remember all your picks are voted the same equally of course so if you select a lot your top favourite won't stand out so much.

The idea is simply the driver(s) and team(s) you hope will do well against the others each race.

Vote (unless you're neutral) then we can discuss  :) .

You can pick as many as you like. - Ah I needed to select multiple choice again, fixed now I hope.

- Also there's no option for no team, or no driver. For example I don't support teams, whilst I know some who support a team but no drivers in particular.

Yeah I see what you mean.  We were already short of driver slots, is the problem, so I didn't want to use one up for this.  Can you not perhaps credit a team for employing your favourite driver? Or the other way round.  Or otherwise I guess comment but not vote.

Edit: Okay I added that option for teams.

Haha, yeah I just voted with your first suggestion, which I guess made the most sense. No problem though. And I understand the problem with 20 slots.

As a Lewis fan, I have come to support them now. Still prefer and always will, Mclaren but Merc have a lot of good personalities, Lowe, Lauda etc have done an excellent job, obviously, and run a team like many, dare I say it, feel it should, by letting them race.

Kinda depends on what you mean by 'supporter', I guess.

I mean, I'm really mainly a team supporter. But there's drivers I like, although I'm not sure I'd call myself a supporter, necessarily. Like, I wouldn't go around wearing a hat with their name on it, but I'd still consider myself a 'fan' of them.

So obviously Ferrari. And then Kimi, Vettel, Ricciardo(since Webber's gone :( ), Grosjean and Hulkenberg are all drivers I quite like. For various reasons, some performance-related, some not.

Support Hamilton - so by default I'll support the team who he drives for.

Williams my all time fave team. Hope to support McLaren again....... but the way that they went about their business in 2012 is almost unforgivable...... not that they'll give a toss about me.

Always looking out for JB, Kobi - and latterly the Hulk and Ric.

Would have voted for Bianchi if he were not tied to Maldonado..... give him his own slot and dump Chilton or Erikson.

why the cynicism?
of course a lot of us Räikkönen fans supported the team to put a good car under our driver's bum, and now he's gone we don't care anymore about it.

Fine, I'll stick with it being down to the poll options of previous polls, or down to the different interpretations of the word support.

The fact they didn't pay Kimi can't have helped.  And instead of Eric Woullier there's that banker.

I like all the drivers but I root for Hamilton Ricciardo and Kobayashi the most so I voted for them. No particular team.

Kimi, Alonso, Vettel and Rosberg are near the top of my list of favourite drivers too.

I have been the fan of quite a few drivers in my time:-

Rindt
Cevert
Bellof
Senna
Schumacher

But since 'my guy' retired at the end of 2012 I have supported no other drivers yet. Perhaps when I see a driver who's skill and talent excites me I will, but currently I support no drivers or teams.

Lewis all the way.

I started to warm up to Mercedes as a team, but as soon as Lewis leaves them, I will not cry if they totally pull out of the sport. Therefore, no team.

Interesting lack of support for Red Bull.

Maybe their fans were somewhat transitory in nature (glory supporters) as I don't see anything much to like about the way the go racing?

Are these the same guys who have moved over to Mercedes? I mean, honestly, how can Mercedes have more supporters than teams with a proper history like Ferrari and McLaren etc?

p.s. I supported Brawn GP

Well Red Bull are still not very popular are they? [Edit as Treads says]  I don't feel it's just down to being a younger team than Ferrari/Mac/Williams, otherwise Merc would be in the same boat.

Some of it might be the drivers (see Lotus) , but not all (see Hulk/FI), and Ricciardo is reasonably popular even if their 4x wdc must be the least popular 4x wdc ever.  I don't think it''s the success either - see Kimi's drop, Lewis' rise and Merc's rise.  We love success.

I think they started out meaning to be cool, with the brand, the music and so on, but gradually they've got caught up in the win-at-all-costs thing and aren't seen as sporting.  Too many bendy floors, map changes, height adjustments...and Horner...how simpatico is he?  Rather aggressive and cocky, with a bit of a smart mouth, for me.

IMO Merc did themselves a LOT of good in Bahrain.

It was the polar opposite of Multi21, which was not just a TO and weakly abandoned pandering to Vettel but a sneaky code designed keep it secret, so we would be kept in the dark, like mushrooms...

Plus Merc have quite a few likeable people we get to see.  Before we even get to Lewis, of course....

These polls accurately represent how certain teams or drivers get more excuses or leeway than others, in terms of the discussion.  The affiliations.

But you can't blame people for liking who they like.

I'm one of the folks who support a team (Ferrari) so I always also support their drivers.  This has led to issues in the past when someone I hated (like Arnoux, or Prost, or Schumacher) became a Ferrari driver.  For the time they drive for the Scuderia, I'm a fan.  When they leave, I tend to go back to not really caring one way or the other.

That being said, I did include Kobayashi and Perez, as I like them both and would like to see them succeed.

And finally, for reasons I can't really explain, I've become a bit of a fan of Hamilton.  Probably because he beat Vettel here in Austin in 2012.

F1 is a global sport but this is primarily an English speaking forum, with a lot of UK posters.  Ferrari and McLaren have the history and Merc have Hamilton who is a very popular driver since entering F1.

F1 is a global thing, sort of like the Olympics, but the forum is just a section or segment of the entire fanbase.  The English speaking side.. with a few non English speakers who can speak it as a second language.

Hmmm, well F1 as a brand is pretty English-speaking.  The Red Bull brand is in English.  And Red Bull Racing is in Milton Keynes and full of Brits, led by Brits with an Aussie driver mate.

Mercedes our most popular team atm is German, fronted by two Austrians.  So I really don't think it's about nationalism.

Not to claim that our poll speaks for the whole world, quite right.  But still there must be reasons for the differences we're seeing, and I can't see that national bias explains it.  Afaics it's more likely to be behaviour.

Ever since Jordan became Midland I've been a McLaren fan, though Force India these days does remind me of Jordan with the way they punch above their weight.

With Drivers I've been a Button fan since his F3 days, but like to see Hamilton, Hulk, Raikkonen and Kobayashi do well as well.

Hulkenberg has more fans here than I thought

It is always said that "fanboys" always vote for their favourite driver, but without taking into account that it usually coincides with those drivers they believe to be the best. It's not always good for debate, but illuminating in poles like this. I gave Hulk a vote because I think he is a WDC in waiting, and I hope at minimum he lands in a car to prove that (or otherwise).

Let's see the non hardcore fanbase of the sport:

Mercedes: 5.4M supporter https://www.facebook.com/MercedesAMGF1

RedBull:    3.4M supporter https://www.facebook.com/redbullracin

Ferrari:     2.6M supporter https://www.facebook...ScuderiaFerrari

Mclaren:   1.8M supporter https://www.facebook.../McLaren.Racing

Williams:   0.5M supporter https://www.facebook.../WilliamsF1Team

Tried to check on the drivers, but lot of the drivers don't use twitter or don't have an old enough facebook page (like Kimi, with this Ferrari made facebook page with 50k supporters, which is obviously not representative)

I could've done a third section with 2 drivers in it, but when I did that in the past people found it confusing.  Everyone will have a different idea who should share a slot, so afaik all we can do is vote and say in a post who it's for.  I reckon any other combination would have raised more complaints, tbh.
