I've been a Merc fan since 2010. Williams from before that. From 2010-2012 It was always painful seeing Schuey and Nico qualify well and then his tyres chew themselves to pieces.

I think this is very telling.

Hamilton is certainly the 'superstar' of F1. How that happened can be debated ( as a fan I believe it is his driver, but you could argue good marketing) but no one can doubt that he has transformed the popularity of Mercedes in F1

In the UK, yes. And there is nothing weird about that, he is a talented British driver, already with one wdc, on the road to the next one.

I'd go along with that. Mercedes in 2010 didn't bother me at all, but I followed Hamilton. I'm currently clinging by my fingertips to Button but his team (who I also voted for out of loyalty and nothing else) are doing their best to drive me away...

Here's a sorted summary of driver votes after we've been round all the time zones now, at 24 hours and 182 voters.  The % is of the number of voters (as opposed to the number of votes which is what is shown automatically)

 Lewis Hamilton 80	44%
 Kimi Räikkönen 58	32%
 Fernando Alonso	49	27%
 Nico Hulkenberg	45	25%
 Jenson Button 43	24%
 Daniel Ricciardo	34	19%
 Nico Rosberg 30	16%
 Valtteri Bottas	28	15%
 Sebastian Vettel	25	14%
 Kevin Magnussen	24	13%
 Kamui Kobayashi	23	13%
 Romain Grosjean	17	9%
 Felipe Massa 15	8%
 Sergio Perez 12	7%
 Daniil Kvyat 12	7%
 Adrian Sutil 4	2%
 Esteban Gutierrez	4	2%
 Max Chilton 4	2%
 Jean-Eric Vergne	3	2%
 Jules Bianchi 2	1%
 Pastor Maldonado	0	0%
 Marcus Ericsson	0	0%

I've had to guess a bit about Bianchi/Ericsson/Maaldonado

Here are the teams.  The % is of those who did not select the 'no team' option, which left 153 of 182 voters.  I.e. "Among those who support at least one team"...

Mercedes	59	39%
McLaren 52	34%
Ferrari 46	30%
Williams	45	29%
Force India	23	15%
Red Bull	20	13%
Lotus 11	7%
Sauber 10	7%
Marussia	7	5%
Caterham	4	3%
Torro Rosso	3	2%

29, 19% voted 'I don't support any team in particular'.

I usually don´t vote in these polls and I haven´t voted in this one but my opinion is:

Top favorite drivers, in no particular order, Hamilton and Alonso. I am also especially interested on Hulkenberg, Raikkonen, Vettel and Button.  Ricciardo is a new interest of mine.

I admit I haven´t been particularly interested on Rosberg, probably due to his wheel to wheel racing that hasn´t impressed me (this year he´s driving a completely dominant car, so nothing new in that sense), but I think he is fast, intelligent (he must be, people talk about it all the time, although I am not impressed with the five languages, he must be) and no few times he has managed to fight Hamilton in equal terms, which isn´t an easy task. Maybe the main problem is that I compare his virtues with the virtues of others, I mean, I probably compare him to "fast Hamilton" and "brainy Alonso"… and up to now, I haven´t had my “Rosberg moment”.

With drivers I usually need something that impress me, something that can happen in one single race or race after race, something that makes me wonder “how did he do that?” or simply makes me think…wow. In Hulkenberg case it was the way he kept Hamilton and Alonso behind, no matter if he had better traction, the man had to deal with tons of pressure and he dealt with it, as simple as that. In Raikkonen case it´s his speed combined with his wheel to wheel racing. In Vettel case, I simply don´t buy that someone is four times WDC due to good lack (dominant car), the man did what he had to do, he completely dominated his car (something that doesn´t happen this year, at least not up to now). In Button case, I know perfectly when this happened, Canada 2011, this was my “Button moment”, apart from that, is consistent and has interesting race intelligence in my opinion. The way Ricciardo is adapting to…everything, I have to like that. In Alonso and Hamilton case, I don´t know from where start, they´ve impressed me a considerable amount of times and with them I get the feeling that this can happen again and again, no matter if they are beaten, regardless of their mistakes, bad years, supposed personalities…I get this feeling, probably due to the fact that, what they´ve done, is done, I won´t forget those “impressive moments”.

I really like Hulkenberg. Liked him in 2010, but his lack of a drive in 2011 meant I started supporting di Resta. Hulkenberg beat him, so from then on, its been Hulkenberg who's my favorite in F1. I didn't like Alonso at all before 2010, but after his showing in the latter half of that season, I've started supporting him as well.

I don't support any teams, although I have a soft spot for McLaren. The first driver I liked was Mika and I started liking Raikkonen once he retired. Raikkonen continued at McLaren, so that continuation means I do have a soft spot for McLaren. I wouldn't mind seeing Hulkenberg in a McLaren at all.

Surprised how many Hulkenberg fans there are. I knew he was popular (he's someone I always look out for, too) but didn't expect him to be that high up.

Anyway, JB fan all the way. Supported him from F3, back in the day highlights were shown on channel 4 I think. Followed him through thick and thin - even in 2007 when he had a bad car and most people switched to supporting Lewis ;)

I don't follow a team, I prefer supporting drivers. Always keep an eye out for the Hulk and alonso too

I've been supporting Hulkenberg since 2012. I get more of a thrill out of supporting the underdogs, so seeing Force India in third in the constructors championship, and watching Hulkenberg regularly challenge Alonso has been an absolute blast for me.

Not me. I've been a fan of both Rosberg and Hamilton for a while. I liked what happened to Mercedes when the two teamed up (also became more and more disheartened with McLaren over the Whitmarsh years). So now it's Williams and Mercedes for me.

It's Lewis Hamilton all the way for me. I like Rosberg as well but not nearly as much as I like Lewis. :)

For team, I voted Mercedes...I have been a fan of theirs since 2010 and of course, Lewis drives for them. I also voted for Williams because it is nice to see their return to some kind of decent form.

I do like seeing Lewis at the top of the heap, along with Kimi and Nando.  Hulk too, a very racy character.

Mercedes benefitting from going after Lewis and also the way they've behaved, I think that's great even though I have no time for Daimler.

Lotus paying the price for not paying Kimi; tbh that also strokes my sense of justice.

What do Red Bull do?  And what is it about Sebi?  How much does this matter to Dietrich?  If I wanted to sell more drinks I'd dump Horner, Marko and Vettel and recruit Brawn, Lewis and Kimi.  Keep Newey obviously.  Would that turn their unpopularity around?

Unpopularity in the Autosport.com forums doesn't necessarily translate to unpopularity with general F1 fans, let alone the F1 public...

If I were running an F1 team to promote my product I'd certainly want the hardcore fans to like it, because we're probably the tip of the iceberg.

Merc Hamilton has more fans on here than I thought.

Fixed.

For me it's: Räikkönen and Bottas, so the Finns of course as I'm a Finn.

Teams: Williams and Ferrari, but really can't call myself a team supporter.... obviously. Now that I think about it, maybe I shouldn't have voted for any teams at all.

Force India and The Hulk

Alonso as well after seeing him punch above his weight and do well in cars that Massa and Kimi (both good drivers as well) struggled with at moat times. Daniil and Magnussen are two drivers who will come into there own even more I think although Im not to sure about the Mclarens.

Lewis as my only driver.

Mclaren Mercedes & Williams

McLaren and Williams due to the affiliation of Great Brtiain and great British drivers past and present.

Mercedes becuase I want them to do well while Lewis is there. is that ok to put down Merc, or should I have left them off as its only a consequence of following Hamilton?

I found it hard to pick a driver. There isn't one I particularly care about (any more), and none of them strike me as especially interesting. I ended up voting Kobayashi, as his interviews always make me grin.

As for teams, Ferrari. Why? Because when I started actively watching F1 in 1997, I took a liking to these red cars. The talk of the lone Ferrari driver going up against the superior Williams no doubt played a role in that, too. :p

I support McLaren and as a result whoever drives for them so they were my votes.

However I generally like all the drivers in F1 (with the very occasional exception) so I'm quite happy to cheer on anyone who puts in a good performance (which is quite useful when McLaren have a bad weekend as it means I can still enjoy the race - it  helps keep things in perspective too :p.)

So its Lewis out on his own, great to see afaic.  Everything I like to see on track and a sweet-natured, interesting person off it.

Kimi's lost a bit of ground from last time, with losing out so far to Fernando I suppose, but still up there in our affections, quite rightly with being so fast and fair on track and so individual as a person.

Hulk in third, showing IMO that we value great skill and raciness more than the TP's!!  Always has a smile too.

Nando and Jense have lots of support, good to see.

In general we like success don't we?  Unless it's Sebi.  That clearly is not jealousy, or nationality.  I guess it might help if he gets to grips with the car and starts beating Dan?  I can't really explain why I don't take to him, but in a way I'm glad it's not just me.

I'd have wished to see Grosjean with more than 10% support, but on the whole we're not interested if they don't have the car.  Koba excepted :)

On the teams I reckon Merc have a Lewis effect but also a Racing effect after Bahrain.

McLaren a Ron effect.  Or a Whitmarsh effect perhaps.

Wiliams yay!

Ferrari a bit of Kimi effect?  Still only 4th.  Is it really true that F1 couldn't survive without them?

Force India - I still find the nationalistic name a touch alienating, personally.  Some Hulk effect helping I guess?

Red Bull...well this gives me a good feeling about our values tbh.  As does Torro Rosso's position.

Likewise the descent of Lotus, although that is a pity.

I keep hoping the minnows are going to make it up into the midfield, but no sign really.  Shows how difficult it is.

Was originally a McLaren fan, then Lewis/McLaren then after the shambles at the end of Lewis's time with McLaren I found myself detesting them, I'm quite enjoying watching them flounder now, sad to say.

On RBR, I think the opinion of people on forums is important, were a section of the public after all and whilst we don't represent the whole population it wouldn't surprise me if the unpopularity continued into the wider world.

Well, for some reason I'm always hoping Helio will finally get the title. Also, I prefer Penske to Ganassi. Apart from that? Maybe Bourdais, he did some great stuff in Dragon Racing.

In WEC, anything non-Audi is great, really, so doesn't matter if it's a Toyota or Porsche.

And as for NASCAR, I don't really have my favorite driver or team. I'm just hoping for much drama and tension each race.

I'm just not sure why the poll is only F1? Is there a reason to it? Thread title and OP clearly do not state which series are concerned.

There are plenty of non-F1 threads but because they're in a minority they tend to be titled with the series and F1 is taken as the default.

I don't follow NASCAR and the others, I started a thread about what interests me. You can start your own threads on the series you're interested in, can't you?  You won't find a lot of spluttering indignation, don't worry.

Wow, Hulkenberg joint 3rd with Alonso! I wasn't expecting that.

This forum has been around a while now, any early 00's era people still kicking about, did Fisichella have a similar support base during that period or was it more DC, Hakkinen and Schumacher and Montoya and Raikkonen after a while?

I support Alonso and Bottas.

Among teams, Williams and Ferrari. I admit I support Williams only because recently I found out they're sponsored by Oris watches. About Ferrari, it is not that I'm a fan of the team itself, I only support them because of Alonso.
