I really don't understand why Renault has to come out and try to embarrass teams especially when they have gotten it so wrong with their power units . . . they were not ready and were ill prepared when the season started.
Well, a clarification from Lotus, also from Pitpass . . .
Lotus' statement does not actually deny the suggestion it has not paid for its engines. Where all other Renault-backed teams have categorically stated as such, Lotus has simply stated that it is up to date with its agreement, which could be interpreted as meaning the team has negotiated a revised payment plan on which it is yet to falter.
My reading of this is that Renault are essentially blaming Lotus for the pace of development, which is under-funded.
Since this statement came rather out of the blue, it may well be that a. n. other team or teams is unhappy.
Engine penalties are going to kick in soon. Certainly, because Renault was indeed behind schedule, its teams will feel these first.
I think this is just an early salvo in the blame game.
