So (reductio ad absurdum) if I sign with Renault, and they rock up with an old Renault 30 V6 with a couple of U2 batteries wired to it, I have no comeback?  Surely a contract has terms protecting the customer's interests as well as the supplier's?

Lotus qualified 5th today, take the Mercedes out of the equation they are 3rd. How is that an under performing engine? And yes a contract is a contract.

I really don't understand why Renault has to come out and try to embarrass teams especially when they have gotten it so wrong with their power units. Teams have had to spend more resources because of their crap. They should first sort drive-ability and power issues before issuing threats. If i remember correctly they were the best cheerleaders of the changes we have had...even threatening to leave f1, yet they were not ready and were ill prepared when the season started.

Well, a clarification from Lotus, also from Pitpass . . .

Lotus' statement does not actually deny the suggestion it has not paid for its engines. Where all other Renault-backed teams have categorically stated as such, Lotus has simply stated that it is up to date with its agreement, which could be interpreted as meaning the team has negotiated a revised payment plan on which it is yet to falter.

My reading of this is that Renault are essentially blaming Lotus for the pace of development, which is under-funded.

Since this statement came rather out of the blue, it may well be that a. n. other team or teams is unhappy.

Engine penalties are going to kick in soon. Certainly, because Renault was indeed behind schedule, its  teams will feel these first.

I think this is just an early salvo in the blame game.

Why payments ? How come this money for x number of engines per season is not pay up front.
Strange how they do business in F1. This should all be included in the team's budget.

Not necessarily. A team has  a  'credit rating' like anyone else.

I think it was only HRT who had  to pay everything up front.

41 liters per 100km.. at the Canadian GP.    thats 4x more the a very efficent 4-dr or 3x for an average thirsty sedan.. or 2x worse then most exotic road cars

F1 and Fuel Efficiency is hardly a good thing to say.. just like a Green F1.. etc.

Hey, uhm... I was being facetious.

You guys are killing me.

Arguments about fuel efficiency, and selling lemons???????  In the words of Robert Plant, RACE CARS, anyone remember RACE CARS?

WTF is going on with this place, it's like a horde of lawyers decided to start hanging out on a CAR RACING message board.  Not bloody hyper-expensive vacuum cleaners that don't work right because the fuel flow sensor says they're using too much fuel while the ERS system is being recharged so the driver can wonder if the computer is going to decide if the turbo is going to kick in at the same time as the battery, hopefully the brakes are going to work and if not the silly phallus better stop the car before it goes submarining under a tire barrier.

FIA, what hath thou wrought?

Well, this is what you get when you let some ******* like Bernie turn a sport into a business.

EDIT:  Wow, that is the first time since 1999 that the software has censored anything that I wrote.  And it wasn't even a bad word IMO.  I will leave people to guess.
