Does anyone recall 'Brian Anderson Racing'?

No takers then.  The combination is the Dick Hawes 1977 BRM-Yamaha monocoque built for him by the Stanley-BRM Formula 1 team.  It will be coming up for sale by Bonhams in their Oxford Sale on June 7.  We have found no reference to 'Brian Anderson Racing', as lettered upon the combination's GRP body panelling.  I was hoping that this Forum might be able to point us in the right direction to confirm the machine's intermediate history.

Sorry , Doug , iv'e been a tad busy , but iv'e been checking back through some programmes , and Dick was sponsored / entered by Brian Anderson Plant Hire in the seasons 79/80 , at least . I could vaguely remember the name , and when Dick Hawes name came up the bell rung , as they say , and I do remember again , vaguely the BRM connection , I might even have more info hidden away ..................if you like I will have a delve , but I might be unlucky .....................I think he also sponsored/entered a solo .......................i'll look further

Yes , thought so Barry Ditchburn was sponsored by Brian Anderson on a TZ750 in 1980

Brian Anderson sponsored Kevin Wrettom and Peter Weale I think, he was a London based Irishman and I knew him a little.

I certainly remember 'Anderson Plant Hire' on Kevin Wrettoms fairings in the 70's Mick.

Doug,

Brian Anderson, originally from Ballymoney was a plant hire contractor based in Bearsted, Kent. He was working at Brands Hatch in the autumn of 1976 and we got talking in the paddock during an end of season BMCRC meeting. My own 250 Yamaha was up for sale and he asked me what I was doing for next year. I said that I had no plans for the upcoming season and he offered me a bike straight away. It was as simple as that.

He bought me a new TZ 350 and I rode that and occasionally other machines from his stable for the next three years or so, both in England and Northern Ireland.

He was a very generous man, very fair, straight talking with no airs and graces. He simply enjoyed racing and was prepared to put some money up in order to get closer to it.

I remember the sidecar well as I was a very occasional passenger to Dick during 1977 and it was certainly Yamaha powered then.

Best wishes, Peter Weale.

simon buckmaster inherited the rg500 and tz750 from barry ditchburn in late 1981 and the sponsorship from brian anderson, who was an irishman based in west malling if my memory is correct.

I think the sponsorship continued until the end of 84 at least

i have a couple of photos from 83 that i'll try and post or maybe graham can post them for me

That is all fantastically helpful, for which thank you all very much indeed. Not least it stops us shooting up all kinds of blind alleys trying to find subsequent races and owners which, or who, never existed.
