And what do we think of this?

Excellent idea - then pit-to-car radio can be replaced by a real time Facebook timeline interface. Though the drivers wouldn't be able to see where they're going over Facebook like, comment and share buttons appearing over every trackside advertising hoarding.

Lotus F1 still around in 2033? I just don't buy it.
So you won't, but hopefully someone will

Seems likely. They already have the LCD screen. They soon will be posting selfies live during races:

"see a representation of invisible forces like the airflow coming off the cars in front, allowing drivers to effectively use the slipstream of their opponents as they race."
Game changer. Right now the drivers are clueless about where the slipstream or dirty air is.

"But the rival cars could counter that with a "breathing" car that changes shape to create "dirty wind", preventing competitors from taking advantage of their slipstream."
Fascinating to see a piece on F1 being written by something like CNET. Dear me.

It's fun to look at but it's just someone's best guess. It's like when they made the Back to the Future movies.. it sort of seemed futuristic at the time but nothing like the real future is or will be.

all silliness apart fighter pilots already have augmented reality and have so for a few decades, so if its of any use i dont see why f1 wouldnt have it. Assuming its of use though.

The author of that article either didnt know or didnt care to mention that moveable aero is banned.

20 years is a long time. Even today it's not totally banned. That's exactly what DRS is.

It will be reincarnated by then for iteration 3 or 4.

Well, at least they are still open cockpit and open wheel. As for the rest, I recall that we were all supposed to fly to work in our individual hover-cars by now.

All electric power plant... eugggh.

By then augmented reality will be banned too.

True

We're still decades away from having the computing power necessary to do real time CFD calculations of that magnitude. Then you've got to get it in a form that will fit in a car without adding too much weight.
It's a pipedream.

I can think of a few very helpful uses for augmented reality.
1 - In low visibility conditions (rain), indicating where the car in front is, or someone behind you.
2 - Indicating that a car has stalled on the grid. See Indy road course start last week.
3 - Indicating that marshals might be on the track, or a car stopped round a blind corner.
4 - "Watch out for that car that's exiting the pits in your blind spot!"
Real safety improvements can be made, rather than having live wake modelling (which is a bit silly because a driver can feel that and it won't really change how they drive) or stuff like that.
