No high expectations from Monegasque GP, as usual.

I hope for compelte Hamilton domination. pole - fastest lap - win. And to be honest this is very likely.

Rosberg is quite handy around Monaco. Then again, I said the same thing about Bahrain and we all know who won that race.

TBH, I think Hamilton and Rosberg taking each out in a 50:50 racing incident (with each of them blaming the other) would be the best thing that could possibly happen for the rest of  the season.

It would certainly liven things up!! I hope that doesn't happen though and would like to see Lewis get his second Monaco win :)

I have great faith in Monaco

Two drivers at the top of their games separated by 3 championship points, throwing two cars that aren't glued to the road round the twisty streets of Monaco with the barriers there to catch either of them if they get it even slightly wrong,

The pressure will be boiling for both of them, One tiny slide and it can be race over, -25 points, I cant wait to see how they deal with it   :smoking:

Some fans need to realise you cant have loads of overtakes all the time, thats not always F1 and they should maybe try other series like the bikes (MotoGP not gonna be good for anyone who dosnt like domination for a few years tho i reckon :p )  F1 can just as easily be about two guys battling lap after lap fighting with each other over tenths of a second, but not necessarily together on the track (Like we had last race) Hill vs Schumacher were normally on different strategies (normally Schui one extra stop than hill) and their era i remember was tactical battles between them with Schu trying (And normally succeeding) to build a big enough gap, we are lucky we had such an exciting race in Barhain  :drunk: but take each track as it comes and see the different challenges each one presents, and just remember, Enjoy it :)

Disclaimer - I will not however be "enjoying" any races this season until Lewis is 50 points clear  :p too damn nervous

Interesting to see people are pinning their hopes on Maldonado. He might be king at this track but being fast on one racetrack does not mean one is succesfull on said racetrack.

2011: 18 (incident with Hamilton, crashed on lap 78 so was classified)

2012: DNF (incident with de la Rosa)

2013: DNF (incident with Chilton)

Au contraire... The day Lewis and Nico touch will be the end of racing between them. Merc will tighten the leash for the remaining races and you will no longer see the excitement of Bahrain & Spain.

To be honest 2014 season is dull. I know Hamilton and Mercedes fans will say it's exciting, superb, dramatic, but it's not. We can't blame Mercedes, rather we should blame other teams that aren't able to race them. Bahrain Grand Prix is the only bright point of the season tbh. We have one dominating team with one driver a step ahead of the other, much slower laptimes, F1 is unspectacular in one word. However that can be changed on the streets of Monte Carlo. And I really want Red Bull to beat the silver arrows and finally see a competitive race at the front!

No chance of Red Bull beating Merc at Monaco on pace alone.

Yes, a Red Bull win, that would make a nice change from a team dominating the championship

I love Monte Carlo. No margin for error there..and should it be wet,WoW!
An agile car and a fearless not to mention acrobatic driver capable of hanging his balls out the cock-pit and going for it....That's usually the winning combo at Monaco.

This, this, a thousand times this!

If you watch the season review for 1982, one of the comments made by the narrator Clive James is that one of the rarest sights in F1 is racing cars actually racing each other.  Races with lots of overtakes are remembered because they don't happen all that often.

I thought the RBR was particularly good in the mid to high-speed corners due to its aero, but on par or below the Mercedes in all other areas (from what I have read in various driver interviews). If this the case, I'm uncertain if any of the teams, even RBR, will be able to beat the Mercedes in qualifying and race.

I don't think Monaco will be anything but the usual Merc 1-2. It's just a question of 1) which order will Merc finish in? and 2) how far behind will the rest of the teams be?

To the moaners, if F1 2014 is 'sh*t', why are you still watching 5 rounds in? Is there nothing else you can do with your weekends?

If they changed the flavour of your favourite beer, would you carry on drinking it for weeks on end, or just find another tipple?

We haven't had a decent one for ages.

Well what else do they pay Maldonado for?

I'd like a repeat of 2004; shock pole winner and accidents all day.

I have an excellent twitter source :

#Moreabsolutebollocksthatgulliblefoolsbelieve

that reports that posters from the Hamilton/Rosberg thread will be dressed as pigeons and let loose on the track during the race.

If this doesn't happen then it's Monaco, boring as hell, and I'll still watch it 'cos I'm a sad git.

Looking forward to seeing how Pastor will total his car and what excuse he will come up with.

My predictions...

Alonso pulling a Schumi at the Rascasse and rendering Hamilton to P8. He is penalised and starts from last.

Maldonado qualifies 3rd, takes Rosberg out at the Hairpin in a total banzai dive.

Kimi goes onto take lead at the restart after cleaning Madonado's mess and goes onto win the race. This time is Fernando who crashes and jumps off to a boat with naked babes.

Why did they even bother putting out the safety car boards for that? I mean, the whole track and pit lane were blocked and there were 15 cars and drivers to pick up!

Surely if ever there was ever a time for a red flag it was that!

It should be a lights to flag Merc win tbh. They were the best there last year with a car that wasn't half as fast so god knows how quick they could be next weekend. I'd say Hamilton will be the winning silver suited driver though, he has Rosberg by the bollocks at this point in the year.

Behind them it should be a Red Bull fight for third with everyone else battling for scraps.

The only hope for it being unpredictable is the cars being super hard to handle. If the tail ends step out as frequently as they did in Spain then a few rear ends will be ruined by the armco.

Sadly some people are like this ^^ and even their driver winning by 50 seconds would be utter excitement for them

as for Monaco, sadly I'm expecting another Merc demonstration 'cruise'..

Professed a preference for another dull, lights to flag victory, which said driver in question didn't prefer either a few races back.

After a period of soul searching and reflection, I have come to the realisation that my initial post was quite selfish.

I would actually like to see Lewis start on Pole, lead into the first corner, but having to pit on the first lap with a puncture.  Lewis then Scythes up the field until his planned stop, hustling his way past the other cars to second place.  On the last lap he executes a similar move to the one he pulled on Webber last year at Rascasse (he almost made it stick, but not quite), the two W05's AKA The Kraken and Cthulhu go side by side, Rosberg leading by a hair's breadth as they head towards Antony Noghès.  Rosberg gets excellent traction, his right hand side-pod is abreast of Hamilton's front left, he begins turning into the final corner, the two cars still side by side, their drivers maneuvering in anticipation of the other, Hamilton's position having compromised Rosberg's exit.

The drivers eagerly stamp on their throttles simultaneously, unleashing the fury of these once subservient, mindless, turbocharged beasts.  No longer humbled by their masters they squirm laying black tyre marks over the road, rear ends meandering down the straight. The drivers wrestle with their controls in an attempt to pacify their furious F1 cars, defly preventing the dancing cars from touching.  The huge turbos hissing like poised, agitated serpents, their ferocious appetites quenching the fiery flames as they emanate from the bowels of these malevolent machines.  The pulsing, faint, afterglow of hot gases barely visible in depths of the exhaust pipes, emits a hazy mirage behind that mesmerises the spectators.

The two cars speed down Boulevard Albert 1er millimeters apart, each trailing an almighty shower of bright yellow sparks in their wake, that emerges from underneath and bursts high into the air as the cars scrape the track surface, they are as spectacular as they are ephemeral, but how is that possible without skid blocks!?  Don't ask me, I don't know!

The spectators in the overlooking grandstands and highrises and those enjoying the lavish extravagances aboard harboured, multimillion dollar yachts are on their feet, enchanted by the titanic battle that is set for a epic finish.
Sunlight glints off the silver cars making them twinkle and shimmer, as if now blessed with a magical aura.  These mechanical characters are the stars in this huge pageant, both leading characters as they speed towards the line.

With rear wheels still spinning and a howling tempest powering the turbos, the cars continue to accelerate.  Long black streaks of Pirelli rubber painted onto the tarmac by two sets of wide rear tyres ignite spontaneously,  with a blaze that gives chase to the architects of their existence.  This is unbelievable, how can this be!?  Don't ask me, I don't know!

What is that, OH MY GOD its....its.....I don't believe I'm about to say this but its, Godzilla!  Godzilla is stomping his way through the Principality and, wait a second there's something behind him, Jesus Christ! (no not him) Its that immense creature from Cloverfield and is, is that.......hold on, let me just......its a Kaiju emerging from the Med, how is that possible, we are nowhere near the Pacific's rim?!!!  My God!  They are now eating, yes eating the spectators who remain totally captivated by the race!  What's happening!  I don't know, don't ask me!

Completely focused, with eyes transfixed straight ahead, both Mercedes drivers hold their breath.  The noise of the turbos whirring behind, pushing them towards their respective destinies.  They are still side by side, each gripping their wheels as if to hang on for dear life, willing themselves ever closer to the finish.  The sparks continue to fly behind both cars and are quickly vanquished in the hazy atmosphere.  The cars are tearing up the flaming tarmac behind, earth shaking thunder and lightening bolts in hot pursuit.  How on Earth is this possible?  HOW MANY TIMES DO i HAVE TO TELL YOU, DON'T ASK ME I DON'T KNOW!!!  Its as if these incredible, unexplainable phenomena have been invited solely to witness this truly remarkable racing event in Monaco.

At 160 mph the drivers maintain formation, the area around the finish line darkens as Godzilla's foot hovers above, tension descends.  Every moment now passes in slow motion.  The drivers perfectly tuned to every bump and every tune from the engines.  Now silence as the chequered flag looms, waving frantically in the warm air.  The cars cross the line together, its a photo finish.  There is excitement all around, the Mercedes garage is celebrating, delighted having achieved another 1-2, yet there is nervousness in anticipation of the final result.  The seconds tick away, it seems like a lifetime has past and as the cars on their slow down lap reach Casino Square the result is confirmed.  Lewis Hamilton wins the Monaco Grand Prix with Nico Rosberg 0.001 seconds behind in second place.

Down in the Garage Jock Clear is going crazy, emulating Michael Jackson by grabbing his crotch, thrusting and with a hand in the air yelling Hooooooooo!  He then begins break dancing on the garage floor.

Godzilla and 'friends' are also celebrating, getting into the party atmosphere, dancing and laughing as they continue to feast.

No-one is able access the Autosport forum as it has crashed.

I think that would be an exciting race. :)

It's interesting how many people seem to say "Lewis is Monaco champ" when the guy didn't even finish on podium in last 5 races here (with his teammates getting the podium twice in that period). Even his victory in 2008 was down to SC timing when Hamilton crashed just before pit entrance.

I'm just hoping for some balls to the wall racing, but with all the complaints on the compounds this year I really can't see anything else happening than the 2011/2012/2013 tyre saving highspeed trains.
