I don't know why people were expecting things to be closer around here apart from it being a shorter circuit.

If it is not wet then the best car still wins. Brawn in 2009 being an example.

Button wary of new asphalt from Massenet into the tunnel. Of all the places to have lower grip in Monaco, Massenet and Casino!

Dont understand his point. Its not like its just him using the new tarmac!  I guess he is getting his excuses in as he expects to crash on it.

Because as everyone's been saying, Red Bull clearly have the better chassis and Merc are flattered by their power unit. We've had Barcelona which is the true test of the aero and now we've got Monaco. Perhaps, if Merc win here as well those who believe it's all about the power unit will realise that there's more to the silver car than that.

it's not qualifying yet, so not taking this gap for granted, but if we want to go to conclusions based on fp1: 1 second gap shrunk to ~0.25 here. surely the track is not 4 times shorter? ;)

I wouldn't draw any conclusions from FP1 or 2. Red Bull will certainly be closer but I think people have been underestimating Merc's chassis.
