Amus said this happened in the off-season.  So all in all, pretty quick reporting by the Beeb

Every team needs a solid #2 driver. A very safe bet.

I suspect ROS and HAM will be Merc drivers for many years. A German and a Brit. Both still young, both fast, both marketable, both easy enough to manage. Cannot see any reason to change that.

Dito, Mercedes would be stupid, they have the perfect line up, and the drives would be stupid if they wouldn't try to stay at Mercedes. If you look back four years at least, Red Bull, Ferrari, Williams stayed at the top and fought for championship. Why should Lewis go to another team, he is in the right team at the right time. He will stay longer than 15. As team chef I wouldn't change a bit. Getting Alonso or Vettel instead of Rosberg fires back, everybody knows that. Great driver at the front and very good driver as second driver

Bummed. Really wanted to see Alonso at Mercedes...

In a way, I was kinda looking forward to it. However, recent events such as the race in Spain and the comments before this GP have reignited a certain dislike for Alonso in me.

Threatened by a competitive Kimi, he needed again to be favored by the team in order to undercut his teammate, twice, even though he was behind.

The recent "I'm not praised enough by people close to me" comments and LdM's immediate "all hail 200% Alonso, the best driver to walk the Earth" reply, all fall in line with his 2006 and 2007 seasons at Renault and Mclaren, where he showed a fragile ego as well in order to get preferential treatment.

Alonso needs a clear number 1 policy, that much is obvious. He's not going to find that at Mercedes, not with Lewis along.

He's a fantastic driver, but I'm absolutely positive a switch to Mercedes would only bring turmoil and drama.

I believe the team is much better off with Lewis & Nico.

I think this is well deserved. He's always been his best to bring the team to the forefront of F1 and it shows that Merc respect his efforts. Besides, why change a winning formula? Even if the relationship between Lewis and Nico does indeed deteriorate through this season, I doubt that other drivers will fare better.

Lewis out after 2015 then as a 3 time just like Senna. Then back to McLaren to end his career in the midfield with all this new talent coming through there's no space for Lewis at the age 31 in a top whip

Considering Red Bull is locked out, Mclaren is all at sea and Ferrari is about the same as they have been for the last how many years, it is the best seat in the house.

I'm just watching Sky Sports news and they are reporting that Mercedes have issued a statement denying any new deal with Rosberg, that nothing has changed since the start of the season and both drivers are on long term contracts. (Which would fit with the Amus story a few weeks ago Mark93 alluded to).

Why would Mercedes want to change either driver? They are both at the top of their game. Nico won the first race when Lewis only had 5 cylinders and had to retire. Lewis has won the next 4 races but Nico was faster in 2 of those races but Lewis with track position and considerable skill, hung on for the wins. There's not a cigarette papers width between them. They are good friends and go back a long way. The media is trying its best to create some sort of feud between them. As long as there's no major fallout, then keep the status quo (no not the old rockers). I have no doubt that Alonso, Vettel, Ricciardo and a few others would give their eye teeth for either of those seats but if I were Mercedes I would sign them both for 5 years.
