Its easy to smile when your teammate has problems every other race and you are not even slightly in the WDC battle. He is a great guy, but he has much less to worry / get angry about than those two.

The fact that the disqualification, pit stop blunder and subsequent grid drop is no longer at the forefront of people's mind is a testament to Ricciardo's attitude and professionalism. Couple in the 'tough luck' episode and I think he's had just as much cause as Hamilton / Rosberg to start sulking.

He has arguably the toughest job this year to come into RBR and challenge Vettel. Monaco has just highlighted that drivers deal with pressure very differently.

And what all those have to do with today's and the Spain podium? Yeah he acted really professional at those times, but we are not talking about what happend before.

What has Ricciardo's situation got to do with Lewis Hamilton/Nico Rosberg?

  • He's not involved in a championship battle
  • He's just came from a midfield team to a front runner
  • His team mate is struggling in comparison.
  • He's just got a big pay rise.

He's ontop of the world. He isn't settled into his current status. Everything feels like a blessing right now. Of course he's still smiling like a mad-man, that will soon change once he normalizes to his situation and things heat up in the team and when the stakes become high.

I haven't seen anything, but is there any news about Perez/Button?

And apropos very little, I've been looking at photos from the 60s and it's remarkable how much narrower the track is, now that we have safety.

Once Vettel gets a hold of the car and has no more bad luck and starts beating the heck out of him, that smile will melt like ice in the desert.

I just think drivers should have more control and importance vs team, but at the end of the day that comes down to one's personal view of what F1 should be.

Who pays the bills?

Who pays the bills?

If Merc didn't have two good drivers then they wouldn't be getting the money to pay the bills...

But, at the end of the day, we pay the bills...

The drivers are employees and like it or not it's the team that calls the shots.

And no we do not pay the bills. Once you have handed over your money for goods or services it's no longer yours.

Congratulations to Nico, he kept the WDC battle open, hope there is more to come.

And huge-huge congrats to Bianchi and Marussia, for me they are the MVPs of this race.

Very enjoyable race, the on-boards alone are worth the cost of the HDTV and cable. Lewis is one of my fav drivers (since GP2), but I really think he does himself no favours with his petulance. I hope he doesn't need to waste time chasing his happy bubble again.

But if we don't hand over the money, they have nothing.

Next season Dan will be winning races so if anything his smile will only get wider (if that's even possible)

Any wider and it'll be off the side of his head.

Congrats to Bianchi for barging into Kamui and ruining his race, and not taking his 5s penalty when he was supposed to. Apart from that he and the team deserve the points... I guess.

Good results from Hulkenberg who got back to finishing behind Alonso again, and Massa who recovered from his qualy troubles and made a wacky strategy work.

That still doesn't mean your paying the F1 bills.

Well its a bit unfair that in the previous races the team gave Rosberg a strategy to enable him to beat Lewis except in this race the favour wasn't returned.

In Spain, when Rosberg was able to go quite far on the option tire in the first stint and chose the prime tire for the second, I was waiting for a strategic gamble that might well have won him the race. Had Rosberg done a short hard stint on the prime and changed back to the option quite early, he would have given Hamilton a difficult decision: change to the prime tire earlier than he wanted to, or let Rosberg use the undercut to take the lead (hoping his tires would go off badly at the end.) I do not believe Rosberg had that option, however. Even on a different tire strategy I don't think he was permitted to make the early change to get the undercut or force Hamilton's strategy.

Is there a video of Chilton cutting Raikkonen's tyre? Or image? I could only find this.

Well, I'm reading some "great race" posts here...but the Monaco races are awful and the SC ruined the only chance of getting some excitement and track position changes during the race. Really, 1 stop race in Monaco +SC in the pit window means a crap race. I got bored. Only seeing Ricciardo so close provided a 5% of interest in me... and the anticipation of the +40pages in the Kimi vs. Alonso thread about the blistering pace of Kimi vs. the average pace Alonso had (for 10 laps...which it seems to be a good sample to extrapolate to a full race for some).

Still, I guess that we, F1 fans, have to live with a race like this. The glamour, the beauty of the city, etc...but the race is simply (very) boring.

If there is, it never was released. Chilton really should sod off now, he wrecked Kimi's race. Actually, Chilton bought in on the damage his teammate inflicted. Smells like Singapore 2008 :p No, just kidding, but it's pure irony of course.
