Is there a book that covers the 1litre "screamer" F3 racing in the UK and abroad?  Close racing / slipstreaming and plenty of manufacturers - the sort of thing we don't see now.

It's my 65th in a couple of weeks and I thought I could encourage my nearest and dearest to buy me something I want as opposed to a gift she (bless her) thinks I ought to want.

Thanks,

Jeff

If you read French, there is/are Jurg Dubler's two part book(s). I think written in Swiss German and then translated into French. Editions du Palmier are the publishers. Very good, informal and fun to read. Dubler competed almost every year, except perhaps the first year.

Marcus

The title is "Les Annees Fabuleuses de la Formule 3 1964-70".

Only other one I can think of is Bernard Cowdrey's Formula 3: The Screamer Era. Published by Bookmarque in 2004 and reprinted in 2010. Now again out of print and with just one copy currently on ABEbooks ... fifty quid including postage.

I have a feeling I saw a book on the 1 litre F3 era on a book stall at the Goodwood Revival. It may hay have only covered UK events, and perhaps I am only imagining it. However, I would be surprised if someone ( apart from the Jurg Dubler books mentioned above) hasn't published a book on this topic - if they haven't it's a gap in the market that is crying out to be filled. It might be worth searching  some of the motoring specialist book sites on the net. I just tried Chater but they didn't have anything.

ps I think Vitesse has just identified the one I was thinking of

In fact I can offer THREE Bernard Cowdrey titles.

1) Formula Junior Racing Cars remembered bookmarque 1993 (Juniors)

2) Formula Junior the complete  A-Z  Bookmarque 2003(Juniors)

3) Formula 3 The screamer era (1964-70) Bookmarque 2004 (F3)

best regards Michael

Justin Haler was working on a book about 1 Litre F3 at the time of his death. I seem to remember hearing that somebody else (Tony Dron?) was going to finish it. I'd certainly buy a copy if it does get published.

Edit - I think it was Chris Witty, not Tony Dron

I may be mistaken, but wasn't there a book underway from the now deceased Justin Haler?

Another thread, I believe.  Various awards to anybody who can find it...

Hi Jeffbee

I appreciate that this may be rather late but I've only just joined the Autosport Forum.    Just to put the record straight, my F3 Screamer Book is not out of print and is still available directly from the Publisher which is an updated soft-bound version priced at £24.99 plus postage.

Hope this helps

Bernard "Ben" Cowdrey

Thanks for that information Ben.  £24.99 seems good value compared to the used copy currently for sale on Amazon at £4305!  I think that seller has lost control of his 'automated pricing software'..... :drunk:

On the subject of F3 1 litre, anyone know what Dave Walker is doing these days [assuming he's still with us]?

I saw my 1st F3 race July '70 at Croft [won by Carlos Pace with the aforementioned Jurg Dubler 2nd]...Dave Walker became my favourite driver, mainly because I liked the GLTL Lotus :drunk: ....I know he dominated the 1.6 litre F3 in '71 then flopped alongside Emmo in F1 in '72 but don't know what happened after that......

I keep hoping that Motor Sport magazine will do a feature on the 1-litre category especially as they were co-sponsors, along with Shell, of the main F3 championship in '70...I hope they have plenty of archive material and photos etc

According to Richard Jenkins on his Where Are They Now site, he's in the boat business in North Queensland:

This earlier thread on him may be of interest:

My first too - marshalling at Barcroft; still never seen an F3 entry as big and now I never will given that the British F3 series this year has about seven bloody cars....

A bit late, but the Formula One Register has very complete records of Formula 3, including the "screamer" era. Entries - grids - results. (no photos or race reports). Copies are available on a print to order basis. Contact

He sold that boat (called Anaconda 3) about 6 years ago and is now in New South Wales.
