One-off Ferrari 166 MM/53, s/n 0262 M, with Abarth spider body was made in 1953 and originally delivered to Giulio Musitelli from Bergamo. Car was raced in Europe by Musitelli (during 1953-54) and in USA by several drivers since 1955 to 1960.

I'll try to post only verified information about Abarth spider and will be really grateful for any help from forums.autosport members.

I would start from "Varese – Campo dei Fiori" HC race, which took place on June 14, 1953. This race was the 3rd race for the new Musitelli's car.

Distance was 10,0 km and winner was Eugenio Castelotti (Ferrari 225 S). His result was 7'50''00

With result 10'09''50 (average speed is 59,06 km/h) Musitelli finished 39th in OC and 11th in S1500+ class.

Interesting fact. In that race all Dzus locks have been connected by a "safety" wire. Wire was used in Targa Florio also.

I'll be grateful for any additional details about Musitelli in that race. The main question I bother is: Why Musitelli finished just 39th, behind many of the less powerful cars? Were there any accident during the race may be?

10 Ore di Messina, July 26, 1953

As some sources says (for example this http://www.barchetta...2M.166MM.53.htm) on July 26, 1953 Musitelli/Castelotti were entered and won the 10 Ore di Messina race with Abarth spyder. This race was mentioned even in the 0262 M Lot description in RM catalog for the 2004 Monterey Sports and Classic Car auction. It's totally wrong!

In fact Musitelli/Castelotti were entered in 10 Ore di Messina but with Ferrari 250 MM Pininfarina Coupe (s/n 0256 MM), not with 0262 M Abarth spyder.

Anyone can read about this in the Nino Minutoli's book "Bolidi di Notte. Storia della Dieci Ore di Messina" published in 2011

Here the proof link: http://www.forum-aut...5.htm#t15286731 where posted some scans from this book.

And here the image of the Musitelli/Castelotti's Ferrari 250 MM
