Even though he's going senile, I still think Bernie runs the sport better than a corporation would do.

Senna and Schumacher were the 2 drivers who popularised F1 the most over the last 30 years.  While toxic in some aspects, they brought an audience to the sport which the sport wouldn't have had without them.

Kimi lucked into winning the championship in 2007. Deserved to win it in 2003, though.

  • There are too many races in each season. A Grand Prix is not as special when there are 19 of them. And it can put fans in a difficult position if they have other commitments such as family, friends or work.
  • I think F1 is in terminal decline and the people involved deserve it for agreeing to all these stupid changes (DRS, Pirelli) and not speaking out against other things (the move to pay TV, circuits in the middle east etc).
  • Most people only cried out over the Vettel/Webber multi 21 incident because they knew Webber would not win any other races that year.

He managed to win 1 race compared to Montoyas 2 race wins and Michael's six.

I think we have to agree to disagree on that.

Kimi would have deserved to win the 2005-championship imo.

Nico Rosberg is on the same level as Lewis Hamilton.

The top three or four aside, F1 drivers are not that special.

Yeah. While Bernie has made money, and his business pursuit in F1 has reached the level in which a corporation would operate F1 like, he still has the passion. Would a corporation (even the FOM without Bernie) have the same passion (or any at all for the sport) once the old man goes belly up?

As hated as Max Mosley was, he kept the sport a bit closer to it's past. He wasn't paying attention to other endeavors the FIA was sanctioning, but his approach to F1 was to keep the status quo. And he did a damn good job at that. And I preferred that. Why mess with something that isn't broke?

I agreed with Seanspeed, but I might as well join in anyway.

Raikkonen was never a top driver, and though he was talented enough to deserve a title, it never should of been that title.

More fans need to spend time looking at the history of the sport. Far too many people who only started following around the turn of the century think that the driving standards, extravagance, and the money shown at that time were the way it's always been.

Went to qualif yesterday and my thought about the new sound is this : It was awesome! Didn't need ear plugs, didn't hurt my ears and the sound was still nice being there live.

Hamilton's skin color is one of the reasons why some people don't like him and try so hard to find something negative to talk or write about him. They're lucky he's giving them some ammu with some of the things he says from time to time so they can cover up the real reasons for their dislike towards him.

Sebastien Bourdais was not as disastrous in 2008 as many people think, he was extremely unlucky. Lost the 4th place in Australia because of the engine failure. Lost the 6th place in Japan because FIA had to give Massa 1 point to make championship more interesting. Fell short of the 3rd place in Belgium by less than a lap.

I actually agree with this and have always felt he entered F1 at the wrong place and time.

Busy now, so I'll post mine later.

So this is a thread where we can post our biased and ignorant opinions without having to rationally justify them to anyone? Awesome.

You don't have to read the topic if you don't like it.

Rosberg is a better and more complete driver than Hamilton. Lewis is a drama queen when he is beaten.

Vettel is a completely overrated driver, who lucked into the best cars for 4 years and is now being beaten single-handedly by his teammate.

Maldonado is so bad, they should replace the word "trash" in the dictionary with his name.

Jenson Button is washed out, he's easily the worst of the current world champions in the field.

One of the main ingredients in a top driver is luck. Getting a good car early in your career gives you reputation and, more importantly, confidence.

At least JB is beating his team mate, something that cant be said for a couple other WDC.

Yeah, really difficult against a rookie. *slow clap*

Saying Jenson is the worst out of the current WDC's is hardly an "unpopular" either. If there was a public vote to determine the weakest WDC on the grid, Jenson would probably win.

It is more unpopular to say that Kimi is the weakest WDC, which I would actually agree with at this stage. So yeah, come at me Kimi fans   ;)

Yeah, currently both Kimi and JB look anything but WDC, neither would be missed if they left after this season.

Well here are my shots:

-Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel, Kimi.... all of the top drivers are not nearly as "perfect" as their hard-core fans think they are.

-Ferrari did a mistake when they sacked Kimi after 2009

-Kimi is fully capable of overcoming his troubles and misfortunes and beating Alonso eventually

Get back to 9 points for a win system with and re-mark all the previous 64 years worth of races to sort out won really won each championship.
Always including the Indy 500 results and giving an extra point each for the pole sitter and the fastest lap.

I think the 2013 car did not flatter Jenson's ability, and Lewis made him look worse than he actually was in 2012.

Jenson is still a very good driver.

Kimi was golden from 2003-2007, however since then he has lost a step. Still a good driver, do not get me wrong, but I can think of at least 5 drivers on the current grid who are better.

I saw a few topics like this about some other sports in some other forums, so maybe it would be interesting to do the unpopular opinions topic about F1.

But please, the point of this topic is not to argue with the other people's opinion (if somebody states his/her unpopular opinion, for exapmle "Driver XY didn't deserve the title in that year", please don't start arguing with that member, that's not the point of this topic), let the people state their opinions and just acknowledge what they think.

Thank you :)

No. You can have unpopular opinions in any thread, you just have the courage to stand by those views, the eloquence to persuade others to your point of view and the willingness to be able to debate your argument fairly with others who don't agree with you. What you are asking for instead, in effect, is a thread where you can say whatever you want without there being any consequences. People are not going to be handed a chance to vomit up bile about drivers without being called on it. Closed.
