Junie Donlavey's family announced Monday night he had passed away due to Ahlzheimers.

He is was a true southern gentleman who helped many drivers get a shot at driving in Nascar 's top series , even back in the rent-a-racer days.

Thank goodness Jody Ridley got Junie a win at Dover

Ken Schrader also got him a Daytona win in one of the qualifiers.

One of those little coincidences that he died at the same age as his perennial car number.

Another link with NASCAR's discarded bedrock.  RIP.

And he had the famed, and very pretty, Truxmore Mercury in which Bill Dennis won the huge 300-mile sportsman race that runs the day before the Daytona 500 three straight times, 1972-74 IIRC. Came close to other Cup series wins on the BIG tracks, but never did get over the hump, except as noted above. RIP
