1 hour and so many crashes... I wonder how many cars will finish the race...
It looks like black clouds are getting closer and closer... If it rains, this is going to become madness!

Just to let you know the Nismo TV youtube channel is showing this in HD and with better commentary (Radio Le Mans?) Much better coverage.

Thanks, yasushi! I was wondering about the lack of HD on the official 24 hours of Nürburgring youtube channel...

Still lots of ding dong battles out there. Lovely weather too, sun going down over the hills.
With Austria this weekend it must be a weekend where I see "the most trees ever" whilst watching motorsport.

Actually, that might be a race car.
Ahem.

Just beautiful surroundings.
Shame the coverage so often seems to think those German commentators are the stars of the show.

Wow the Audi has so much more straight line speed than the Merc, but slower on the corners. Sparks too. Not F1 pretend sparks either

Sometimes I wonder if my declining interest in F1 is down to getting older, I didn't even bother watching qualifying today, unthinkable 10 years ago. But watching this race makes me re realise it not all me, its how crap F1 has become.
I can't stop watching this race... amazing circuit, great cars, good solid coverage and fantastic battles on the track. I'm starting to love motorsport again!!!

I'm getting déjà vu Audi are leading a 24 hour race. It's like last weekend all over again. I haven't been following the race for the past few hours but I have one question....... What happened to the Mclarens?
Both have had problems. The #66 McLaren was 16th just a moment ago but is now stuck in the pits as is the #69 I think.

You might be right Andy - don't know what the hell that Viper was doing. Almost took out a marshalls car!
And that's how you get disqualified from VLN and reported to the governing of German motorsport! Goodbye to that driver I guess!

Doesn't Audi have something similar to the Nismo Youtube Channel?
Because the Nismo channel is (understandably) focusing on the Nissans a lot.
I'd love to watch the Audi garages and onboards instead for a while, the Nissan garage is boring

Maybe I'm just a bit hazy on this fine summer solstice morning, but where the hell can I find the overall standings?
This event has required no small amount of dedication to follow!

Go to http://www.24h-rennen.de/en/live/ scroll down and click rennen. The cheap (mostly in German) app's live timing works the best though, at least for me.

As expected, the McLaren was fast but fragile - but the pole time is staggering 8:10.9 for the Nordschleife & GP Loop (minus the Mercedes Arena); Hindy was saying that's about 6:30 for the Nordschleife; Gp C territory...... bonkers!
Looks like everything is settled, ( if it ever can be in a 24 hour race) with the #4 Audi holding a lead of about 40 secs over the #20 BMW, which has a 1m30 stop/go coming up.

But, another enjoyable N24; well done to Audi on winning their second N24, and their second 24 hour race in a week. I just wish Manthey had brought their 'A' team, but with their commitments it's understandable.

yes, yes, how boring is F1...this race in Austria good for a lazy sunday afternoon sleep, the last one was the same, that one before a sleeping pill as well.........what fun to see this race with 160 cars, amazing real racing, not the stupid Ecclestone sleeping circus...

Phoenix Racing Audi #4 Claims Nürburgring 24 Victory
22 June 2014
Just one week after an Audi emerged victorious at Le Mans, the manufacturer has tamed the brutal Nurburgring circuit. The No. 4 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra ran a remarkable race, completing 159 total laps. René Rast, Christopher Haase, Christian Mamerow, and Markus Winkelhock are the drivers of the aforementioned Audi.
They were followed by the 2013 race winners (Black Falcon), who's No. 1 Mercedes SLS AMG finished the race three minutes adrift of the winner. The No. 22 Rowe Racing Mercedes filled out the final spot on the podium. The No. 44 Falken Motorsports team led the way for Porsche in fourth, with the No. 007 Aston Martin rounding out the top five.
The story of the winning Phoenix Racing entry's sister car was not nearly as glorious. Fortunately, the early carnage did not become a theme in the race. The most controversial incident happened when a Viper almost drilled an intervention car, but slammed into a Mini Cooper instead.

Phoenix Audi Wins Nurburgring 24 Hours
22 June 2014
Audi celebrated another 24-hour race win just one week after its Le Mans success, as the Phoenix team came out on top in the 42nd Nurburgring 24 Hours.
Germans Christopher Haase, Christian Mamerow, Rene Rast and Markus Winkelhock racked up a total of 159 laps of the 15.769-mile long circuit, a combination of the Nordschleife and the grand prix track, to establish a new distance record of 2507.296 miles.
It was Audi's second outright win in the Nurburgring 24 Hours after 2012, while Ernst Moser's locally-based Phoenix team scored its fourth win after earlier success with Porsche in 2000, Opel in '03 and Audi two years ago.
Only three minutes down, last year's race-winning Black Falcon Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 came second with Dutchman Jeroen Bleekemolen, Swede Andreas Simonsen and Germans Christian Menzel and Lance David Arnold.
