A solid 7.
Best Driver: Fernando Alonso. Hamilton a close 2nd but his spin in qualifying really numbs it down.
Worst Driver: Sebastian Vettel (for sealing his fate by smashing into the Sauber)
Best Team: Mercedes
Worst Team: Williams (seriously, this could have gone so much better if their strategists weren't complete buffoons)
Best Overtake: Rosberg on Perez
Best Moment: The start and how Hamilton basically flew by
And the race in a sentence...decent, but ultimately falls short off Canadian GP and Bahrain. Expected better considering the slightly mixed grid.

Best Driver - Rosberg - not spectacular, just did what was needed to win
Worst Driver - Massa - snatches defeat from the jaws of victory ... again
Best Team - Mercedes
Best Overtake - Rosberg on Perez, Bottas squeezing through as well
Best Moment - Hamilton's great start
Interesting, but not the drama of the Canadian GP.

Best Driver - Bottas for his first podium
Worst Driver - Ericsson
Best Team - Mercedes
Best Overtake - Rosberg vs Perez
Best Moment - Hamilton's start
DRS + Tyres ........
7/10 it was ok

Boring race with few sparks of hope for it which turned bland because no one was able to try anything on track and reverted to pits much like in the past (aka. trullitrain effect)
That coupled with the ugly cars and horrid rules made not enjoy the race.
Plus for nice track scenery but racing was bad this time.

Best Driver - Nico
Best Start - Hamilton/Vettel
Worst Starts - Ricciardo/Button
Best Teams - Mercedes/Williams
Worst Teams - All Red Bull Teams
Best Moment - Nico crossing the line
Worst Moment - Kvyat Brakes blowing out/Seb's loss of drive
Worst Reporting - 'Hulkenberg passing Vettel' (actually Perez passing Ricciardo) lol.
DRS/Tyres - whatever

Fantastic track, great atmosphere but dull race.
2/10

Best Driver: Hamilton
Worst Driver: Vettel
Best Team: Merc
Best Overtake: Dani on Hulk in the last lap
Best Moment: Start
DRS + Tyres: okay
6/10

Best Driver: Hamilton
Worst Driver: Raikonnen
Best Team: Mercedes
Best Overtake: Ric on Hulk
Best Moment: -
DRS + Tyres: DRS is still a joke.

Best Driver: Top 4 were great. Nico controlled the race, Hamilton had a mighty recovery, Massa got pole, Bottas kept it close with Mercedes all race long.
Worst Driver: Kimi was awful slow, but to be honest haven't even tracked his race, dunno what happened.
Best Team: Mercedes. Great strategy work to put both of their cars in front of the two Williamses.
Best Overtake:
Best Moment: Lewis first lap
DRS + Tyres: If you want solid tyres it was perfect, but if you want degrading tyres - it seems not enough, no one was really struggling with them. As for DRS... it was useless, we actually got more overtakes into T2 then in DRS zones. Ricciardo even pulled off an overtake in second sector high speed corners.

I want to give it 7 but I'll give it 6... just becuase I was so excited for the race and I just felt it missed the mark slightly. The Mercs' battle wasn't as intense as at other times this season.
Also so disappointed Williams buggered up their strategy, again.

I'm getting tired of making excuses for Kimi.....
Posted 22 June 2014 - 19:18
Best Driver: Hamilton
Worst Driver: None really
Best Team: Same as usual zzzzZZZ
Best Overtake: Daniel at the end!
Best Moment: Chequered flag
DRS + Tyres: DRS still sucks
Qualifying promised such a great race which sadly never appeared.
4/10

Best Driver Alonso
Worst Driver hmmm, none jump to mind so Vettel for disappointing qualifying and then running into the Sauber.
Best Team - Mercedes, by far the best car which still allowed an easy 1, 2 despite errors over the weekend from both drivers.
Best Overtake - Ricciardo on Hulk
Best Moment - Lewis's first lap, made up for his qualifying error immediately to get right behind his teammate. Bottas on the podium (finally Williams take a deserved podium with what is 2nd fastest car)
DRS + Tyres Didn't really notice them.
And the race in a sentence... An intriguingly set up race that fizzled rather than exploded (maybe due to Lewis making up all his places in 1 lap and Vettel dropping out) Overtaking proved difficult and clever strategy was the way forward - a 6!

I was surprised so many people were excited about the return to Austria, to be honest. It never produced a decent race in its former life anyway.
Eh? 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002 (!) and 2003 were all memorable races.
And on TV it just looks gorgeous.

You forgot 2001 - IMHO one of DC's best races ever, keeping Rubens behind him so effectively that Ferrari had to use their team order trick already there and then. Also memorable for a hilarious JPM/MS moment ("OK, if you want to pass me I'll make sure that we both loose out") and Jos Verstappen - of all people, he started 16th...! - profiting from that by getting 2nd for a few laps (after passing DC) right behind RB's leading Ferrari. And of course one of the first great races by a very young Kimi Raikkonen, finishing 4th in a Sauber.

This race wasn't any less spectacular than many of those races, though. Just our standards of what constitutes an exciting race are higher now.Eh? 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002 (!) and 2003 were all memorable races.

I thought the race was very good - slow-burning and strategic. The Mercedes 1-2 was an inevitable result but they had to work for it; the spectre of unreliability hung over them until the end. Alonso was also quietly sensational. Barely noticed DRS or the tyres.

My problem with these "Rate the Race" polls is that fans only rate the final stages of the race instead of a whole race. I don't blame them either, it's natural for us to remember the latter stages of the race better.
Canada was boring in the 1st half of the race and incredibly tense in the 2nd half of the race. Result? 10/10.
Austria was exciting and tense in the 1st half of the race and boring in the 2nd half of the race. Result? 7/10
San Marino 2005 is wildly remembered as a classic race only because of the final 13 lap battle between Alonso and Schumacher. However, can anyone recall what happened in the first 49 laps? Likely not, because they were boring.
China 2010, on the opposite side of the spectrum, had 40 laps of incredible tension, overtaking, excitement, etc... However, the final 16 laps of the race were relatively dull and anti-climactic. Result? Almost no one remembers that race.
I am not immune from falling into this psychological trap, but I do try to rate the entire race instead of just the final 20 laps.
As for this race, I voted an 8 out of 10; it was very exciting until around lap 50-onwards.

Gave it a 3. All the radio talk about save brakes, save fuel, you cannot push to pass, you can use push to pass the last laps, you're tires are better wait till the end, use engine strategy 6 till the end, you're not racing Rosberg, etc etc.... Really made me wonder what kind of racing I was watching. RC controlled puppet drivers in some sort of semi endurance race where nothing is build to last for real racing. Brakes and tires that cannot deal with anything, fuel rules that make a snore fest of the middle stint etc etc etc. Come on......

I don't think DRS had too much of an effect at this track as it was low-downforce settings anyway, and the straights were too short.

Best Driver: Bottas, I also enjoyed Perez finishing 6th after starting 16th
Worst Driver: Vettel, Raikkonen
Best Team: Williams (Ok they lost, still nice performance)
Best Overtake: Hamilton (Start), Ricc over Hulk (Nice fight)
Best Moment: Ham chasing Ros (The whole 3 seconds), Vettel in garage (LOL)
DRS + Tyres: Little drs advantage. Dislike 14 tyres.
Austria's back
