Hello,

I'm not a developer and this is not meant to replace anyone from the developers answering you, but I did put together some suggested workarounds for people who were having problems like this a while ago: http://forums.autosp...ed-workarounds/ If it doesn't PM me and I'll try and help with a workaround.

However, it's a pity to hear it's still happening, I hadn't heard of it lately.

Hello, Sophie.

If it may be of some interest, I also have the same problem with IE 11 update 11.0.10 and W7 professional. However, the way you suggest up there worked for me: I managed to quote you this way. Many thanks.

EDIT:

In my case, at least, before Step 5 (clicking the lightswitch on again to restore the normal appearance and get rid of the coding text), I had to write at least one character after the end quote code (
), because, if I don't do it before turning it on again, the cursor goes inside the quote and can't get out of it: my reply would be into the quote box.

Thanks a lot SophieB, it seems to be working fine

After a period of stability, the quote and multiple quote functions are no longer working for me. Same trouble-free system (in all other instances) that I'm using at home - this seems to be a intermittent problem from your end that seemingly will never be properly addressed.

FWIW, have never used the quote function.

Simply use coding - i.e.
then [/qu*te]

* = o

This has always worked, and continues to work.

Just for a better overview
The text you want to quote
Although with this solution you are neither including the name of the poster you are replying to nor the timestamp and also not the link to the post, and the poster you are replying to wont be notified either.

If you are using IE then I would try something else or try the solution which is given in the OP.

You forgot to replace the * with an "o" kid.

Try to post a picture, the box comes up, paste in the link and hit OK and it hangs. Can't Cut and Paste - I assume that ther is no intention to fix these problems. It worked perfectly with IE9, bt that's not supported ny more, and I'm told that Firefox and Chrome have taken against people posting photos, I'll have to check.

I'm still using IE9, everything works ok with the exception of accessing the emoticons but they are still usable by writing them.
PM me if you still have trouble and I'll give you simple work-arounds.

Sometimes the emoticons are appearing again if you are clicking on 'More Reply Options'

Not for me Marklar. There again, my machine is a Jurassic Park escapee. Vista, (you young guys probably have to look that up ;) ), and IE9 which is the most advanced IE that Vista can run. Got infected with istartsurf trying to run Firefox or Chrome as you know.

I am having the same problems inserting images or links.

I am now giving up trying. If this continues I will just visit once a week to check on PMs.

Without system and browser details there's not a lot anyone can do to help you, Steve. :)

From what I gather, the biggest obstacles seem to be various combinations of Internet Explorer and/or pre-Windows 7 operating systems. Have you checked the thread which SophieB linked above?

Not really the case though V2, I'm still running Windows Vista (pre 7), and IE9. there is nothing on the forum which can't be achieved simply and straight-forwardly with the exception of the emoticons which have to be written. Posting a picture or a link is no more difficult than it has ever been, copy, right click and left click on paste. Simple. The only reason to touch the link button is if you wish to embed a link into your own written text. The emoticons are an issue which is Autosport specific, Kaspersky uses the exact same IP Board as these fora where the emoticons are fully visible.

Bloggsworth, your method is what is causing the problem. Look in my post above for tips, copy the img link, right click where you wish to place it and left click paste.

Stephen W, check my posts to V2 and Bloggsworth. I too am totally intransigent with regard changing my browser.

Er, Steve hasn't said which browser or OS he uses. What I was trying to do was establish a baseline from which we can work. Because if it turns out that he's using (say) Chrome on W8.1 then the chances are that the problem may lie elsewhere.

True, but my point still stands. Vista and IE9 have caused the same problems to some, me too originally, due however to my intransigence in changing, I had to discover how each operation was done. To the best of my knowledge, the whole Windows/IE thing is Autosport specific.

That's how it appears to me, too. Following the software change in 2013 my old computer, which ran Vista and (I think) IE9, was very little affected. The only thing I lost was the emoticons, and like M11 I learned how to create them from scratch. When that computer died last year I switched to another which ran Windows 7 and IE11. This lost me the ability to insert links, quotes, photos etc unless I toggle the 'lightswitch' icon at the very top left of the reply box, which changes the format from WYSIWYG to a more basic format. Doing this enables me to insert things into the reply box, but I still have to write the format for quotes etc into the reply box manually.

On the plus side, I did get the emoticons back!

Now I've learned these tricks I can do everything I want in the forums, but it takes time and concentration, and really shouldn't be necessary. A lot of new forum contributors find themselves unable to do things here that cause them no problems on other forums, and in many cases they just give up and leave. I'm fully aware, however, that I'm wasting my time posting this as it will be ignored, as always, by those who could do something about it.
