Another dig with the shovel of the hole F1 is sinking down in.
Step 3: Artificial sparks
Step 4: Double points in the final races
Step 5: ?
God luck with this F1

Late too party, but the safety car now serves what purpose?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:20
LOL!
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:20

So they wont have to stop the engines. If they are stopped, each car needs 48 ppl to restart it again and it takes one hour and a half.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:25
It's getting to the point now where I'm seriously asking why I still consider myself an F1 fan. Stupid gimmicks like this will only alienate diehard fans, and that'll mean an even bigger drop in viewing figures.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:26
When I heard this restart thing I didn't pay attention to it because I thought it was too dumb to actually take place. Oh god

Why do they make changes that the fans never ask for? Standing restarts? Double points? They do realise that when everyone mocks their changes that they're just pissing the fans off don't they?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:30
This will put so much importance on how good a particular car can start. We've seen it in the last few years with Ferrari and sometimes Williams. Never has overtaking during the race been so easy. And to emphasize: never has overtaking for the lead during the race been so easy. Exactly what the FIA is looking for, apparently double DRS is not enough for them.
And seeing as it can happen at any time during the race, you will have drivers on all sorts of different tire wear stages. With all the cars so bunched up it will be very difficult to predict what the cars around you are capable of. Together with the tire blanket ban, this is definitely very dangerous.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:30
Will we now get to miss even more action because 3 laps after every re-start they will show the latest start from every conceivable angle?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:44
Not crazy to think these standing starts will link and we'll have like 2-3 in a row. If there's contact on turn 1 and another SC is deployed then here we go again, another standing start. LOL
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:44
Can any sane person who makes decisions regarding F1 can explain why we need this?
Or maybe my question is wrong. Can we find any sane person amongst those who make decisions regarding F1?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:44
Silly rules again. Did they listen to fans? I guess not..

Not quite, if there's an SC within 2 laps of a standing start/standing restart, it'll be a rolling restart.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:48
so if you're like 2 laps away from pitting and the SC comes out you're done?

They just don't care about the fans at all. Simple as that. Anyone who thinks differently is delusional.

*Sigh* It's not gonna make me turn off but you just get the feeling that F1 is self destructing.

Before we reach a second page with indignant replies what a stupid bunch the guys at the FIA are, is there any poster who has an idea what the rationale is behind this decision?
The only thing I can think of is that standing starts are perhaps more 'exciting' than rolling. Any thoughts (and yeah, yeah, I agree it is a stupid idea, but I prefer to know why I am angry instead of just being angry).?

I wouldn't be surprised if there actually wasn't any.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 16:58
You hit the nail on the head. It's because standing starts are more exciting than rolling starts and so it improves the show.

FIA? Think not.
This sounds like a proposal from the commercial rights holder: FOM/CVC/Bernie.
Reason: increase excitement and thus viewing figures.

This is a stupid stupid rule. All the tinkering drives me nuts.
BUT
If forums like this explode with endless strings about how F1 has been ruined by engine sound, who can blame the powers that be in F1 from thinking fans car about such trivial things.
We want racing, normal racing with no artificiality. Why do they insist on tinkering away.
WTF is Jean Todt up to - I almost want Max back!

Standing start = more of a chance for Maldonado to cause mayhem = more show

When has he caused mayhem on a start or restart this year?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 17:03

My mind is foggy right now. I think I catch your drift but can you elaborate?

Mark Webber wouldnt love this if he was still in F1...

Why shall we exclude his idiotic moves before 2014?

What a bunch of utter spastic tools governing the sport.
F1 is really killing itself.

There all stupid rules.
Standing restarts
Faking sparks
and Parc Ferme after Fp3.
The sport will survive, but it is past it's best am afraid.

Well, if it ain't broke, don't try fo fix it. Perhaps I am a lone ranger in this, but I'm having the most fun in this F1 season since, say, the 80's.
Is this all because of the lower tv-ratings. Is anyonye aware that many people (like myself) watch F1 racing on the internet?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 17:16
Any way they can still avoid these rules being implemented?
Posted 26 June 2014 - 17:17
Yet another idiotic move from the More Money Than Brains Committee.

I think that's one reason more to be happy for Webber that he left.
Otherwise, it's a lot of lottery and SC-prone races will be even more notchy and rough as they already will be. Any flow during the race will be pulverised.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 17:20
Lol. They were actually waiting for him to retire in order to get RedBull's vote on this..Mark Webber wouldnt love this if he was still in F1...

I struggle to think of anything more meaningful to contribute to this thread than 'WTF'.
The funny thing is... the fans are angry about certain changes... they show their discontent... the FIA listens... 'Ooh, the fans are unhappy'... they change more... the fans are even angrier...
Really, I am really starting to believe that F1 is somehow caught in a kind of circle... kneejerk.

This. I like the racing more than ever this season. But with FIA starting to introduce more fake stuff every year... I don't like it. Sparks. What do they think we are, babies that can be fooled easily? And DRS should be banned.
Posted 26 June 2014 - 17:30
I'm still not over double points last race .... ....
Posted 26 June 2014 - 17:31
Honestly, I think it's in part a failure on the part of the F1 journalists that cover the sport. It's blatantly clear to almost all of them from the comments they get from readers that many or most of these proposals are directionally wrong for the sport and, if anything, are likely to cost it fans and viewership. In that sense, they are the ones who best have the pulse of the fan base. I understand most of them are unwilling to publicly slate the regulations in their published columns. But they're also the ones who have the ear of the team bosses, Todt, etc. and could very easily sit down and have some frank conversations with the powers that be over a glass of wine in somebody's hospitality tent.
