Racing duel of the year so far, lasted around 8 laps? It was amazing! Too bad both drivers spent half the time complaining on the radio.

The track limits talk went too far I think

Another reason to ban radio from the cars. (MotoGP has no radio either).

Lot of gamesmanship going on. Terrific battle though. Both going at it as hard as they could

Best racing we've seen in a long time.  With these tyres + DRS the battles usually fizzle out pretty quickly.  I think it proves that it's not passing we craved for years, it was battles with a realistic opportunity of a pass.  I'll take that over the DRS passes any day.

Was Alonso backing off on approach to the DRS to try and unbalance Vettel or was he just out of traction? His edging toward the track at the end was a little naughty, but it was one of the great modern battles.

There's the solution to falling TV ratings. Get them in the same team 2015.

Don't care to much about the crying over the radio because the racing was classic.

To be fair to both drivers, the FIA had gone out of their way to state that the track limits would be **STRICTLY ENFORCED**, so with expectations like that...

No battle because the Red Bull is a faster car and Vettel was with much fresher tyres. Fernando starts 16th and finish 6th and Vettel starts second and ends fifth. No much more to say.

Both of them crying over the radio trying to get favour with the stewards, at some points embarrassingly so. At what point are F1 drivers going to start throwing themselves on the floor holding their face?

Great racing from the pair of them but stay classy please and stop acting like a big girls blouse!

Epic battle, really proud that Fernando hold position for so many laps against a faster car with newer tyres. The radio stuff and the off track BS is not worth to discuss, close racing like never before, heart almost out of the cheast for both, and both are that kind of guys anyway.

kudos to both

Actually they started 5 and 13 with Fred not needing to use the hards.

And with the Renault engine it was expected to have a tough fight to overtake.

So , yes, it was an epic battle.

Vettel got put on the slower tire, oh and have you seen top speed? Renault engine is ****, it cant overtake better engines. Fernardo drove like a donkey this race.

1) Unfair advantage lining up 1meter infront of his spot letting him pass more cars than normal (and only got 5seconds for this)

2) Got flagged for breaking rules multiple times.

3) Left Vettel no room at all 2-3 times before slamming on brakes in corners.

Luckily due to Vettel's excellent reaction time the racing was clean, if u cloned Alonso this race and put him against each other they would crash out due to stupidity, only Vettel managed to avoid no contact with bull in china shop.

the problem of that, is that one driver will be constantly ahead...and the rating will go down as hell

go and watch the rating of the "kimi vs fred" before and after the start of the season.

In order to get the rating good, one should have an inferior car (Alonso) the other a better car (Vettel) than the battle will be fair   :cat:

super duper battle ...

those who says vettel can't overtake ... suck it

Alonso showed real class too ... i've gotta admit watching him fight that car, yet battling like this reminds me of the movie 300 ... class A drive from both

kudos to stewards not giving in penalties ... they were just running over white lines, not by that much. also both of them were doing it. it seems the race stewards were also enjoying the battle. so once again, correct decision not to give any penalties.

What is wrong with drivers that complain about the other drivers without a contact or being forced of the road? It's RACING!

Great racing. But it's a pity that we had Vettel complaining about a lot of track limits transgressions that we certainly didn't see, and then completed the pass as a result of driving off the circuit to get the slingshot on the Wellington straight, then we had wheel-to-wheel racing through Brooklands and Woodcote, then Seb outbraked himself at Copse and ran off the circuit again to complete the pass. It can't stand.

It's not the first time either. He passed Hulkenberg at Stowe with all four wheels off the circuit as well. There has to be track limits for everybody or nobody. We've got the wrong result here and the stewards need to sort it out.

Alonso said that everything was ok, and he was also moving left and right trying to defend and he was expecting some warning, very honest comments.

Amazing. Great racing from both drivers

Mostly agree, but if the FIA didn't keep changing how they enforce the rules on track limits every 2 minutes, drivers wouldn't have to worry about such things either.

Fantastic racing to watch. Result was inevitable but it was nice to see as long as it lasted. Like I said during the battle in the race thread, Alonso was absolutely majestic given their respective cars and speed.

A nice bed of gravel on the exit of the corners where track limits were being exceeded would be a good solution and stop drivers doing it

Alo had to save fuel because his batteries were out, and he had too use too much of the internal combustion engine, he said on TV that they were having a problem with the rear wing and were thinking about retiring a couple of laps before the fight with Vettel. Eventhough he managed to be competitive enough to retain that 4th WC behind for a long time. Once Vet overtook Alo, you could see that the RB was capable of doing 1.37´s or sth like that while Alo with all those problems was more aroun 1.39´s. What we´ve seen is how the best driver here can stop Vettel who was driving a car 2 secs per lap faster. If it´s Alonso´s merit or Vettel´s inhability to overtake, thats another matter.

He actually lost his spot to Kimi at the start so no unfair advantage....Vettel was also going beyond the track limits and on leaving Vettel no room...he always left just enough room. He showed masterclass today, vettel was about 2 sec faster than him. Alonso had battery issues and had to save fuel (red light was blinking all the time) but he still managed to keep him behind for 8 laps. Yes, the racing was close and a bit aggressive from Alonso on occassions but he knew when to yield.

Ferrari engine is not a big improvement over Renault. Red Bull though is a much better car as shown by Daniel and Vettel once he got ahead of Alonso.

Just heard Alonso's interview with the BBC. Fair play to him, he's admitted that they were too slow and Vettel would probably have passed him anyway even if he didn't drive off the circuit. But I don't think that's the point. If Vettel was going to make the pass anyway, he should have waited and done it legally. He was three times off the track on the lap where he passed Alonso and the overspeed he gained from that enabled him to get alongside, and ultimately to get past at Copse. So he's gained an advantage, and therefore it's not a case of totting up how many times he went off compared to Alonso, Vettel has to give the place back, and because he didn't he should get a time penalty.

Alonso, hate him or love him - he is an absolute monster. Never gives up, fair but firm, in a dog of a car fighting off Vettel on newer tyres.

Respect.

Shouldn't be that hard. Alonso was on older tyres, w/o DRS and saving fuel.

One can understand why Alonso and Vettel are complaining about the other not respecting track limits. And it was a good call from the FIA to not impose penalties on either of them!

However, with Vettels whining about Alonsos defensive driving in Brooklands and Copse.  There was no contact, and no one got pushed off the track, just pure racing! All fans loved it, its whats its all about! Both drivers showed real class.

Yeah so Vettel should have been able to pass him within track limits. But he didn't, so hard luck. it's a stone wall time penalty every day of the week. If the stewards don't act, they're not doing their job. Twice in one race for Vettel, as well. Sorry, that stinks.

I think it's a scrap that'll live long in the memory, like Mansell and Senna that time in Barcelona. Had me out of my seat. I think it was Coulthard wondering aloud after the race why the WDCs can go wheel-to-wheel like that with no contact when we have guys like Gutierrez and Maldonado smashing into anything and everything. The difference is night and day.

They overdid the safety areas that's for sure, but I don't see them going back on that one.

The way it is I'm happy with more freedom in car-to-car racing as a solution.

This just makes the fight even better. Masterclass at defending. Reminiscent of probably the very best days of Schumacher, yet probably despite whatever Alonso did today, still cleaner than that.
