Hi Crazy Ninja, we did purchase tickets for the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix from the official Monaco site, but it looks like it has since been updated.
Basically, the ticket pricing for Monaco is a little different to other races. Instead of buying a 3-day ticket and sitting in the same place for the whole weekend, you purchase each day's tickets separately. It means that fans tend to mix it up a little and sit in different grandstands on each day of the weekend, though you can of course choose to sit in one grandstand the whole weekend as well.
Here is the text from the website:
To get a special « package » price, choose your seats in each selected day.
• 2 days package: full price on Sunday, -10% on Saturday, whatever the grandstand you choose.
• 3 days package: full price on Saturday and Sunday, free on Thursday whatever the grandstand you choose.
Your basket will be automatically recalculated according to the corresponding package.
If you buy tickets for all three days (3 days package) then you save 60-70 EUR which is the cost of the Thursday ticket - that is, you pay full price for Saturday and Sunday and get your Thursday ticket for free.
If you buy tickets for Saturday and Sunday (2 days package) then you save around 20 EUR (you get a 10% discount on the Saturday ticket, most of which are priced at around 200 EUR).
I hope that helps!
We only went this year on Thursday and Friday due to 'budgetary constraints':) We chose K-M on Thursday for 70 EUR - you can sit anywhere in K1-K8 plus M grandstand (and K1 is the pick of these). This was a great choice. Friday entry is free and we watched the GP2 race from Casino before walking the track and doing the pitlane walk for fans. You are supposed to have a weekend ticket to participate, but we were just asked to wait a few minutes before being allowed to join the other fans. We rounded off our mini-Monaco weekend by driving the circuit in our hire car!
Cheers,
Andy
