A lot of rumours today that Sutil quit at Sauber. His sponsors being fed up with the non-points finishes.

His Twitter account seems to be disabled as well.

I don't know how credible this source is, but if it's true....

I think Sutil has had more than his fair crack at F1 so in that respect I won't be sad to see him go and free up a seat, hopefully for some talented new blood. In fairness to Sutil he persevered for a long time but perhaps he would rather go to a different series and fight for wins then constantly battle just to get into the points. Maybe he quit to avoid equalling the unwanted record of most races without a podium? :p He only had one to go to tie with Pierluigi Martini.

Who'd take over his seat if true?

Van de Garde is mentioned due to sponsor money.

Sutil replaced by Van de Garde, is there a more boring news story than that?

Well that will be him out of F1 then probably.

Though I think I'm in the minority of people who actually like him and think he's a decent midfield driver.

Come on Sauber, give Simona a shot. You know you want to.

Most races this year you simply forget he's on track. He personally said Sauber's form doesn't bother him too much (which is strange IMO) but in the end money talks.

I do think he's a decent driver and belongs on the grid based on talent, but he won't achieve anything more than he already has.

I guess how he views this depends if he looks at it either as glass half full, or glass half empty, or glass half in someones face.

No loss to F1.

Sutil should have quit when he left FI.

Doesn't she have to do so many miles in current F1 machinery to get a super licence ?

I believe her Indycar experience would qualify her.

The more interesting bit of the news is the subtext that Peter Sauber, a racer to the core and a proven winner at F1 level (and world champion in sportscars), is scrabbling around looking for drivers with bags of loot rather than being able to get someone in who knows how to drive.  If Sauber can't get sponsorship with a successful history, who can?

You'd think Abramotwat would bung him a few mil out of his pocket change, he seems keen enough to have the Chelsea badge dicking around at the back.

If true, it will only ever be due to sponsors and non-payment. Judging Sutil purely in terms of his driving, I think it is a loss to the grid. He is as good as whatever car he is provided, and there are many drivers on the grid now who aren't at that level.

Lots of rumours that Sutil has been dropped by Sauber to be replaced by Van Der Garde. Going to be an interesting few days I think...

Mclaren never landed a title sponsor either, so things are tough all over.

Interesting.. you can access all the drivers' pages on the Sauber website, except for the Sutil page.

I would prefer Sirotkin over Van der Garde, he seems to be having very decent season in FR3.5 and could be interesting to see him.

I like Van der Garde, though, so I'm not sad. I also like Sutil, but he's achieved enough in the midfield and it's little point in hanging onto the lower midfield seat with little chance of having a podium capable car ever in the future.

The most sad thing in this is the state of Sauber team. It would be a big blow for me if they're forced to leave F1 anytime soon.

Bah. Replaced by van der Gardeā€¦.  :well: I guess he actually had a pretty good contract regarding him being their test- and reserve driver.

I never recognized any of his backers from the Spyker/Force India-days on the Sauber.

Have you recently heard anything about Sauber's Russian sponsors? Have you recently heard anything from Sauber about Sirotkin? I have no idea what the situation is as the moment.

Sutil out before his home race - that reminds me of Frentzen at Jordan in 2001. Were there other drivers who lost their cockpits before exactly before the home race?

I don't think they're on the car, but they are on his helmet - Medion and Capri-Sun are definitely Sutil's personal sponsors.

It looks like Sutil will be driving in Germany after all:

The German GP is not only a home race for Adrian Sutil, but also for the Sauber F1 Team. More: http://www.sauberf1team.com/en/

I was surprised Sutil even got a seat this year to be honest. If his sponsors have now pulled the plug then that would be that really. Sauber can't afford to keep an average driver on when van der Garde is waiting with a suitcase of euros.

Perhaps the rumour was just a rift that became a split after all the whispers. Or maybe the journalist just made it up.

No great loss really. End of his career in f1 maybe? Will be intrested so how Van der Garde gets on. He showed some flashes of speed last year so he might do well. Maybe this will mean Simona de Silvestro will get a shot in practice sessions.

I believe her Indycar experience would qualify her.

I'd like her to get the seat purely on the basis that it would steal the limelight from Susie Wolff.

i dont see why sutils sponsors are ditching him(if true) its not his fault the sauber is the 3rd worst car on the grid. sutil has been getting the maximum out of it recently 3 13th places. instead of van de garde why dont they get de silvestro in she is better than wolff and is a proven talent in indycar and it would bring publicity. if it is a rumour made up (yet again with no proper source) then it just shows that there is nothing interesteing to talk about between races this season

SdS would probably decline the drive if she's serious about her long-term prospects. Coming into F1 mid-season to drive a complete dog for the first time is a sure way of destroying your career. Such a move very nearly derailed that of Grosjean.

I'm not sure that argument leads to business sales though.

De Silvestro wouldn't get the seat, she hasn't got a super license due to the fact that it's got some very stupid and outdated rules.

Don't think so. They need to finish in the top 4 to qualify outright via that route. She may have done the required mileage when she tested earlier in the year.

Not like the crappy car deserves anyone better on board.

GutiƩrrez and Telmex called for a teleconference with Mexican media from Hinwil... not sure if related... Looking at their preview, it looks like Sutil will be driving this weekend.

Not until she starts winning races, the point is all the PR Mrs Wolff is putting in might be wiped out if Simona gets a drive first.

But this is for another thread

Does this mean Sutil's sponsors will want to move him elsewhere, or that they've pulled the plug entirely?

Sauber really are in a terrible state. I didn't think their driver lineup could get more average, but swapping VdG for Sutil would probably achieve that.

There's a reason Sauber only has plastic cups in their motorhome.

The above statement may be a lie.
