Agree with all of the above,one of my Fav. actors since i first saw him in GP as a kid.I read where apparently many of the Rockford Files scripts were rehashed from one of his previous Westerns series,just modernised and set in a contemporary enviroment....  RIP...

Bob Bondurant posted a very moving and informative tribute on his FB page;

I wonder if anyone on here can help me. I have acquired a car that I'm told is one of the cars James Garner drove in the movie Grand Prix. Its an early 60's Type 20/22 Lotus. I want to take it to the vintage races at Watkins Glen NY the first weekend of September, but was hoping to find a little more detail about it. It was originally sold to the Lotus importer in Burbank California from new, then was sold to the Jim Russell School in 1965. It was owned/raced by Chris Alford in the late 60's.

Is anyone aware of a way to verify this is the car? I want to sell it, and obviously am interested to know if its one of the cars or not.

I know this is not much help,but as of 1967 when I attended the the Russell school at willow springs, they had a couple of lotus 31's and an 18. No 20 or 22.

Have you spoke to Chris Alford?  I found this link.  Can someone verify if it is still correct?

I will ask Chris when I see him as he's a regular at Silverstone.

If you have any photos of the car that you can show (most easily by putting them on something like Flickr and posting a link), that would help. There are a couple of well-known and easily identifiable ex-film cars around, and several Formula Junior Lotus's racing today have been named as being ex-film or at least ex-Jim Russell.

My Dad recently gave me a number of old race programs he came across and amongst them was a 1970 Mint 400 program with Jim Garner listed as entry #30 in the 4-wheeler entries and also Steve McQueen as entry #4 in the motorcycles, plus he is also listed as entry #14 in the 4-wheelers. Among the other entries are Indianapolis 500 winners Parnelli Jones and Rodger Ward.

   Hi All,

       A lot of the film tributes this year are showing James Garner in clips from Grand Prix  moreso  than from any of his other tv shows or movies.

I love it. And (sort of) immortalised in a certain book of course.

My brother Bruce has a name associated with motorcycle and surf documentaries, but I'm unfamiliar with my own work, which movie did I do? :lol: I'm now off to change my name to Bryan, and spend the rest of the morning with my wife, the lovely Rachel Ward.

Apologies Brian...I read your sig as Bruce...ohhh the embarrassment :blush:

Bruce can be very proud of his doco's...they certainly filled a void in the period and were all very popular...

Bryan is a much loved Aussie actor so I see no problem with you wanting to assume his persona

Have a great 2015, Cheers Mick in NSW Awstraylia

No worries Mick, I got an unexpected AM laugh; the switching of names has been a common mistake throughout me and my brother's life. My brother Bruce shares the documentarians name only, I agree they are well done plus it's always fun to see your own, or a family members name on the screen. A great 2015 to you as well. :up:
