Hamilton, appearing on the BBC after his British GP win, queried (with his usual endearing lack of tact) where the proper trophy was. As I recall, the actual trophy is presented to the winner afterwards and Hamilton had it with him when he was interviewed on the BBC Forum, it's just that the plastic bric-a-brac one is used for the podium ceremony because, presumably, it looks better in the race sponsor's and FOM's opinion.

I think they've usually presented the traditional trophy at the podium and in teams' post-race celebrations they've had the sponsor trophy. Now they presented instead the sponsor trophy at the podium.

It's good to have the reminder that his tactlessness is sometimes endearing.

That's right.

It's not a proper trophy unless you lacerate your hands trying to lift it.

I think the trophies are awful, I really dislike seeing a sponsors logo as a trophy, it's just ludicrous and cheapens the whole thing.

Interesting choice of words, given the amount of money a title sponsor pours into an event. Not that I disagree with you, or anything.

That looks like a cross between a lobster and a coat hook.

Quite crazy the race name, Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.

I remember the Canadian Grand Prix being Air Canada Grand Prix in the late 90s.

Großer Preis Santander von Deutschland is the craziest I've heard in my life.

And it proves that Santander can't get trophies AND proper GP names right.

It actually looks like the Singapore Airlines Logo.  The press release even says as much.  "Inspired by the iconic Singapore Airlines logo..."

Incidentally, I wonder if anyone can guess the sponsor of the last Grand Prix, based on the trophy...

I can guess it based on the lettering in the background.

Of course it does. At least it looks like a trophy. That's the way to do it.
