Seems like I'm not the first to suggest about this, has been proposed already some years ago but those threads are already closed:

http://forums.autosp...sub

http://forums.autosp...sub

http://forums.autosp...ents-subforums/

Whilst I agree that too many subforums would destroy the board, I think that one non-F1 subforum would enhance the forum. I think one non-F1 subforum would prevent non-F1 topics getting buried within F1 topics, yet one would be enough at the moment. I think all non-F1 topics opened this year would be on the front page of the subforum. And I don't see it as a problem that there'd be everything from NASCAR to WRC and MotoGP. I think that the least versatile fans are the F1 fans. If you care about other series, you're probably interested about more of them, so having more non-F1 series in the same subforum wouldn't be a problem. And of course, if the subforum would become very MotoGP/NASCAR/[enter series name here]-dominated, that series could be split to another subforum. Of course, there'd be the dilemma of general motorsport discussion from the F1 point of view. I'd keep those discussion in the F1 section. Examples of those topics could be "Works team budgets/sponsorship income in other series in comparision to F1" or "[Enter F1 driver name here] goes to WEC/NASCAR".

I know, this hasn't been accepted in previous years but let's see if the opinion has changed. I think I've seen many posters saying their interest is slowly switching to other series, so maybe this idea will get more support this time. Plus this would split RC only to two forums instead of previous suggestions with more subforums.

Solution without a problem IMO. I don't find non-F1 threads difficult to find and I'd certainly worry that people would stop visiting them if they were separated from the popular topics in their own thread ghetto.

We're all F1 fans here. Even for the most I'll-watch-anything among us, the main reason we come here is to find out which tune the True Believers are whining to when Vettel/Alonso/Hamilton/Kimi/Bernie does something silly.

The Spa 24h thread had people wondering why there was so little attention towards that race here. Well, this is mostly a F1 forum. A non-F1 subforum would have it's pros and cons. It would enable non-F1 topics to stay on the first page but then again, some people wouldn't check them at all. This is somewhat similar as doubles tennis discussion at a tennis forum I post to. Because doubles wouldn't get much attention, doubles discussions have a subforum at General Messages (the equivalent of RC).

If there were a non-F1 subforum, there might be less random posters in those threads, on the other hand, knowing that the non-F1 threads don't lose among F1 threads might promote dicussing about those series. Certain non-F1 race threads could be allowed to be in the main forum, like Indy 500 or Le Mans, as they should be quite active during those races.

The one advantage I would see is if you want to post in the General Indycar or General NASCAR thread, it'd take a lot less digging to find. But that's only two threads.

I think it would be very cool. Since it's just 1 extra forum not a dozen of them I think it would even draw attention to threads of events that regularly get buried quickly whenever it's a F1 weekend.

I also have to dig deep whenever I've got to find the Rallying thread which is always nowhere to be seen when you need it, but on the first page when nothing's going on.  :stoned:

I think it would be more apt to create an F1 subforum to Racing Comments and leave the main forum open to general motorsport discussion, as that would leave the primary topics of discussion in Racing Comments to be, you know... racing comments. Any threads that involve F1 as a part of general motorsport could be left in the main forum, whereas the more F1-specific 'Guess what Hamilton had for breakfast?' threads, GP threads, scorecards (which after this year probably need to go away), silly season threads, etc. could stay in the F1 subforum.

The reasons I think F1 should be in a subforum rather than all other forms of motorsport include the fact that a) F1 is not the majority of the racing world and b) if you make the subforum dedicated to every other form of racing rather than F1, then you remove the likelihood of F1-only participants viewing the threads concerning other kinds of racing. Why is this important? I used to be one such F1-only member until I stepped into a few Indycar and NASCAR threads, and I've since become an Indycar die-hard and occasional viewer of NASCAR--I never would've given Indycar a second chance if it weren't for the wonderful group of members on this forum who routinely make the Indycar threads the most enjoyable part of my time here.

So in short, unless you're going to make the new subforum devoted to F1 and leave the primary forum dedicated to all other general racing matters, then I don't think it's necessary to make any changes.

No to this - people wouldn't use it and the threads would be lost.

What would be easier would be to have individual threads in the main forum rather than generic NASCAR or Indycar threads. Just tag the titles.

ie

INDYCAR - Who should drive for Penske next year?

or the like.

Then individual threads live or die on their own merits.

Agreed - adding any amount of clicks needed to access content is one sure way of making sure nobody reads it.

I really see no truly valid reason at all to split the forum up.
